This is a soundtrack to a 30-minute elevator ride. It's quite similar to, so why did I enjoy it, but not this? Simple, Astrud is on the former, and this is just cool jazz jamming.
É luxo só is dope, with an upbeat dance rhythm, and the opener Desafinado is really lush. It's definitely worth checking out. If anything, it's worth as background music.

This is a MUST-HEAR for anyone who wants to dive deeper into this genre, but not for everyone

I thought I would hate this when it popped up, because jazz tends to be pretty boring, but I actually don't hate it. If I ever have to be stuck in the mall because -- I don't know, a zombie apocalypse or something -- I wouldn't be that upset if this was on in the background.

Jazz Samba is background music in the truest sense of the word. This is yet another elevator album (sure has been a long time since i brought that term up) and it fits pretty much all the situations that elevator albums would fit like playing in a coffee shop or waiting on a customer service phone line. I think that it is some pretty nice jazz music with some good musicianship on display and i like that it is more honest with itself and doesn't try to trick me into thinking it will be something different (cough cough Getz/Gilberto). I still think that this is kinda bland which works as background music but doesn't work as well as a serious listening experience which is what i'm typically going for.
Best Song: Samba Triste
Worst Song: E Luxo So

Entretenido, suena bien con auriculares con sonido ¿mono o un protoestéreo separados por canales? no lo sé. Le voy a poner 2 estrellas, pero esto es más 2,5.

Thoughts:
- I might as well have a copy and paste for every jazz (or standards) album that comes up: "Good for background music, but not really my thing. I respect the talent but I probably won't come back to it..."
- I'm really in a rut of 3s right now.

Music to mingle at a party to.

If only ever listened to the Getz/Gilberto album after I became obsessed with Brazilian psych music which led me down the rabbit hole of amazing Brazilian music. This album is great but I’m not sure I can put it on the same level as Getz/Gilberto.

A really light cool lp. More Jazz than Samba.

This is obviously a good album. However, it's not my favourite genre. I prefer the other album by Stan Getz in this same project.
All tracks are ok, nice to listen to, but I didn't find them very interesting.
Overall, this is in the 3 star range for me personally.

Why have I always thought that bossa nova was boring? This is great, a very pleasant surprise. I’m not sure if I’m enjoying this bossa nova more than usual because this particular album has a lot of jazz improvisation weaving through the tunes, or because I’ve just never listened to this genre closely enough until now. It’s probably a bit of both, though I’m leaning to the former because I know I’ve heard a couple of these songs before and much prefer the versions on here.
Finally: oh neat, it was recorded here in DC at All Souls Unitarian Church, an important venue in the history of both the civil rights movement and DC hardcore punk.

Pleasant. Totally fine. But that shuffle drum sound was genuinely like nails on a chalkboard when listening on headphones.

It is a beautiful record of its own right, but it does not sound as flavorful or authentic as I would like. I would much prefer an album such as Chico Buarque's 'Construção' to be included.

In which a couple of American lads hear traditional Brazilian music, think "Well, we could do that" and introduce America to something like what they heard.
Hey Kids, can we all say "cultural appropriation?"
Getz and Byrd and their band play beautifully and make some lovely music. But if you go back and listen to the originals - Antonio Carlos Jobim, for example, who wrote Desafinado and One Note Samba - you realise that they lack the liquid quality of rhythm that the Brazilian musicians have in their DNA.
Getz and Byrd have the notes on paper and play them as written rather than as felt. It's a tidied up version of Bossa Nova and hence, probably perfect for middle America.

No. I excluded Jazz. I hate this music

Por lo visto a mi ahora el smooth jazz me encanta. Lo mismo soy muy fácil pero es que este rollo de discos me están flipando.
