MurmurR.E.M.

Rated 8/10

I really like R.E.M. and I know this first album is sometimes listed as their best (not for me). In any case, this contains two of my favourite tracks ("Talking about the passion" and "Perfect Circle"). And, apart from those, a bunch of very good songs ("Radio Free Europe", "Pilgrimage", "Sitting Still", "West of the Fields"). So, definitely between 4 and 5 stars for me. It's 4,5 ;-)

May need to listen again (or probably wait for some of the other records by the band). It's not an easy album but it is indeed interesting (though I feel this sub-genre is a bit overrepresented in this project). Not a big fan of Fraser's vocals (sorry). It's about 3,5 stars for me. Songs I enjoyed: "Ivo", "Lorelei" (very good), "Aloysius", "Otterley" (probably my favourite as it is highly atmospheric and "almost" instrumental), and "Donimo".

GooSonic Youth

Rated 8/10

Very good album. For some reason, I never paid attention to Sonic Youth. I must have listened to this album once or twice in thwme nineties, but only now I do really appreciate it. I loved it. First thing I did right after listening to this album was to check if other Sonic Youth albums are included in this project. And yes, there are some. I particularly enjoyed the songs with Kim Gordon as the lead vocalist. But, overall, I enjoyed both the more accessible and the more noisy songs. This is 4,5 stars for me but, for now, I'll keep it at 4 stars.

This is indeed very good. I'm not a jazz expert but I found this album really enjoyable. 4 stars (I particularly enjoyed the first track).

RioDuran Duran

Rated 6/10

Good album. Favourite tracks: "Save a Prayer", "The Chauffer", "New Religion", and "Rio" (and yes, as many must have already mentioned, the bass playing is very good, for instance in "New Religion" or "Rio"). It's 3,5 stars for me.

This was a bit of a surprise. Much better than I expected. I particularly enjoyed tracks "Mamata" and "Sagar". At least 3,5 stars for me.

Wild GiftX

Rated 6/10

Good album. It's fun. It's punk. However, I don't think this is really that special. It's a solid 3-star albums. Favourite tracks: "Adult Books", "White Girl", "Beyond and Back",

Great album. Extremely underrated (if published in the 70s, this would be a classic). I saw them live once and it was great fun. Nothing disruptive, but really good guitar-based hard rock. I think all songs are good...and some are great. A few favourites: "Black Shuck" (perfect energetic starter), "Growing on me" (perfect pre-Chorus), "I Believe in a thing called love" (so you wanted to have some guitars?), "Love is only a feeling" (such a well produced song...perfect outro), "Friday night" (a great power-pop song; simply irresistible, with a The Cure influence), "Love on the Rocks with No Ice" (classic sound and progressions,...). Well, I guess we have at least a 4-star album here (if not 5 stars). Feeling sorry for those who can't enjoy this album.

This is a classic. However, for some reason, I can't fully "connect" with this album (I don't love Morrison's voice). I've probably listened to Moondance or Caravan too many times. Actually, more than those, I especially enjoyed "And it Stoned Me" or "Into the Mystic". So, overall, a solid 4 star album for me.

BlueJoni Mitchell

Rated 10/10

Ok, so this is a classic. Great songs, great playing (amazing guitars). I'm just struggling a bit with Mitchell's high pitched voice. If not for that, this may reach 5 stars. Overall, great album. I enjoyed "Little Green", "Carey", "California" (I would really love this song if sung with a slightly lower voice), "River" (probably my favourite), "A Case of You", "The Last Time I Saw Richard"... 3 in a row to finish the album. So it's like 4,5 stars, but I will give it 5 stars just because the last song reminded me of Tori Amos.

Sea ChangeBeck

Rated 8/10

This was very good. For some reason, I never paid attention to Beck, but I enjoyed this one. At times, it reminded me of Ryan Adams (in songs like "Guess I'm Doing Fine"). Quite, intimate...sad songs mostly. Some of the tracks sound simple, but they are not. Others have nice arrangements and sound more "atmospheric". Some songs I liked: "The Golden Age", "Paper Tiger" (loved the strings and arrangements), "Guess I'm Doing Fine", "Lonesome Tears", "Already Dead", "Side of the Road" (great guitar work).
Overall, I think all songs are, at least, good.
I think this is a solid 4 stars.

Good album. The sound is intimate. Margo's voice is great. I liked what someone said about this being somehow reminiscent of some David Lynch stuff. I "don't love" the fact that the song I enjoyed the most is a cover ("Sweet Jane"), but it's still a very good album. I'd say clearly 4 stars. I like this kind of slow music where you can basically hear every instrument an every note. It feels really "jazzy". Some of my favourite songs: "Blue Moon Revisited", "I'm so lonesome I could cry", "To Love is To Bury", . One of the best surprises I've had since embarking on this project.

ImagineJohn Lennon

Rated 8/10

At least three great songs: "Imagine" (yes, we've all heard this song too many times, but the point is that it's a great song), "Jealous Guy", and "Gimme some truth" (my favourite). Only based on those songs, this is at least 4 stars. Do we have enough further material to reach 5 stars?
"How do you sleep?" or "I Don't Wanna be a Soldier Mama" are also very good.
"Oh my love" and "How?" are pretty good.
I think "Crippled inside", "It's so Hard", and Oh Yoko!" are ok.
So, overall, a very good album, with some excellent songs, but I'd say this is more in the 4-star range.

Ok... this was interesting. This is definitely a difficult album (especially after a first listen). It is very original and it kind of gets better if you make it through the initial barrier. I think that, just because of its originality, this deserves 3 stars.

InfectedThe The

Rated 4/10

Not a bad album. However, I find it kind of repetitive. Apart from that, I think "The The" is over-represented in this project (one album would've been enough). For this reason, and also because I found "Soul Mining" (which came up only a couple of weekss ago) more interesting, I'm giving 2 stars to this one.

Easy listening. Good album. Well produced. But I don't find this particularly interesting or original (I guess that was not the aim either). Overall, between 2 and 3 stars. "Space Cowboy", "Oh, what a world" or "Velvet Elvis" caught my attention. I think this is actually more pop than country. At times, it reminded me of Taylor Swift (but in the less interesting songs by Swift, which are still ok by the way).

I'm not a jazz expert...at all. So I can't really tell how this album compares to other albums in the genre. In any case, I enjoyed the album. It's pretty good and I liked listening to it. Overall, this is a solid 3 stars for me.

I guess I've listened to this kind of music too much over the course of my life. I don't think the album is bad. Actually, I think it is quite good, but I don't find it particularly interesting. It's in the 3-star range. Some songs I enjoyed: "Consequence", "Stellar", "Drive", "Clean" (probably my favourite) or "I Miss You" (just a simple song but pretty nice).
