Rated 6/10

This is the first of two albums made by Iggy during his time in Berlin with David Bowie, whilst getting sober (both of which were made in 1977). This one is actually the debut solo album for Iggy as well. It is a hard departure from his proto punk roots with The Stooges. Bowie wrote and performed all of the music for this album, and it really comes through. My first thought upon hearing this record was that it sounded like a Bowie record with a scratchy, gruff vocalist.

Willie Nelson is one of the kings of outlaw country. His ability to produce poetry which he puts to music which is simple in its delivery and isn't overproduced like most country music today is an art. The music on this album is simple, and unpolished, but those impurities are what make this such a stellar album, and they are why Willie is such a force in the industry.

The overarching story that is woven through this 33 minute album is one of love and loss. It is a beautiful album, and is perfect for sitting and listening to cover to cover.

Can I Sleep In Your Arms shares its tune with Charlie Poole's classic: Can I Sleep In Your Barn Tonight Mister. Poole's song holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of my grandfather. He used to love to sing that song. So hearing that familiar tune again, even though the lyrics were slightly different, brought on a wave of nostalgia. I'm thankful for those memories of Grampie.

Overall, a fantastic album today. I've always liked Willie's raspy voice and spoken delivery. It is immediately recognizable. I've never listened to this album before, but am very glad I did today. It will be put into regular rotation from now on!

I thought today's album was a poster for that movie Castaway, where Russell Crowe gets stranded on a island and befriends a volleyball named Wilson. Turns out Dennis Wilson is one of the three Wilson brothers who created The Beach Boys. So after learning that, I wasn't looking forward to what I assumed would just be more watered down Beach Boys garbage. Thankfully though, it's like folk pop/blues rock. Don't get me wrong, there is some shitty love ballads on it, but some straight up bangers too. Like Pacific Ocean Blue. A real dirty blues rocker.

Overall, this album was fine, but far too long. 1hr 52mins is just way too long of a runtime for this record.

Favourite songs: Pacific Ocean Blues, What's Wrong, Friday Night, Dreamer, Under the Moonlight, River Song, Holy Man - Taylor Hawkins Version

Least favourite songs: Tug of Love, Thoughts of You, It's Not Too Late, Cocktails, I Love You

Fuck yes... This is I think my favourite Neil Young & Crazy Horse album. Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black) is an awesome song. So is My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue). I liked his stint with Crazy Horse. Some awesome music came out of those years. I forgot how beautiful of a song Thrasher is. Welfare Mothers is a straight up rocker. Super heavy and probably some of the funniest lyrics Neil ever sang: "Welfare Mothers make better lovers". This album is just hit after hit. 5 stars easy.

Favourite songs: "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)", "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)", Thrasher, Welfare Mothers, Powderfinger, Sail Away, Sedan Delivery, Pocahontas

Least favourite song: if forced to pick, Ride My Llama

(GI)Germs

Rated 6/10

Germs are a 70's hardcore punk band. Super fast and thrashy like punk should be, but I haven't got a baker's fuck of an idea what the lead singer is saying. It's exactly what you expect from a good punk band. Hard, fast sloppy, and unforgiving.

I realised while listening through the album that one of their songs "Lexicon Devil" was featured on the Radio station Channel X on GTA 5. I couldn't remember where I heard it before until I looked it up.

Punk is a weird genre. Each song ranges from 1-2 minutes in length, and never overstays its welcome. That is, except for the last song on the record, which is almost 10 minutes long.

Overall, a perfectly fine punk record from the roots of the genre. Nothing really to write home about, but not bad at all.
