The dude played bass on a Frank Zappa album at 15 fucking years old. Of course he can write good music.

You did it. You crazy sons of bitches, you did it.

Here, class, we see an early recorded instance of dudes going "beast mode".

I'll blame the White Stripes album I listened to right before this for frying my attention span. I mostly recall a vocalist who sounded like Lou Reed in the style of Billie Eilish.

Favorite track(s):
Three strikes (technically four for Jack) and they're out. The usual obnoxious sound of the band is made intolerable by an influx of millennial piano and mushy pitch percussion. The only white stripe I respect is the sideline that these two should stand on while the game goes on.

Favorite track(s): Coyote, Amelia, Furry Sings the Blues, A Strange Boy, Hejira, Song for Sharon, Black Crow, Blue Motel Room, Refuge of the Roads
Top priority on my bucket list is now to take a cross-country road trip listening to only this album. I dare say it's better than Blue; Blue doesn't have Jaco Pastorius.

Unlike Phil Collins's bullshit, Peter Gabriel was actually out there putting out generational music after Genesis. The only thing more legendary than Gabriel's songwriting is Tony Levin's bass work.

Not that the album needs any help but adding See Emily Play and Arnold Layne at the end really brings everything together.

The only thing holding this album back is the fact that this band locked in so insanely hard in the following years that they outdid all of these studio recordings with live performances.

If Dylan made an album like this, there'd be riots in the streets. Somehow when Cohen does it, I'm not fazed. I would even dare to call it good.

Favorite track(s): We've Only Just Begun, Maybe It's You, (They Long to Be) Close to You, I'll Never Fall in Love Again, Crescent Noon, Another Song
This album really shaped up in the back half. Karen is an iconic drummer/vocalist.

A defining album for every music fan that I know. A defining album for one of the best songwriters of all time. A defining album for the ideas of pop and rock music.

An epitome of the "singles + bullshit" album archetype, but at least they made the B-sides fire too.

I am unfortunately overcome by nostalgia for the two big hits on this album but the rest is about as bad as I expected.

It's a fine album, but there's pretty much no reason for it to take the spot from Discovery. Everything on here is done better in Alive 2007.
