What a treat! Vaughan's voice is fabulous and all-around warm. Live jazz albums are delightfully intimate, especially hearing her talk and joke candidly with the audience (even messing up her lines a couple times). These little human moments we take for granted. There's also something precious about a regular old performance being worth so much more in the present day. Makes me very nostalgic for a time I've never experienced and dredges up some lingering bittersweetness. It's a good kind of ache, though. I'd have loved the opportunity to attend one her shows, but this is the closest I'll get!

Favorite track(s): Willow Weep for Me, Be Anything But Darling Be Mine

perfect for early foggy october morning (especially after getting woken up by drone attack warning) (she *is* divine)
nobody honestly dislikes this kind of music
live and very tight !

Thoughts:
- I'm still not a big fan of live albums; this sounds great for a recording from 1957 though.
- Amazing voice. The songs themselves aren't really interesting to me, but she makes them so.

Favorite track(s): Honeysuckle Rose, Embraceable You (Apparently I listened to an expanded version!)

First listen. What a wild vibrato!

Rated 8/10

Not the biggest fan of live albums, but I managed to still enjoy it. Recording quality's better than I'd expect out of 1957. Instruments are a bit dead though.

This was wonderfully soothing and reminded me of my grandfather

Serious question but how did she not know the lyrics if the dude at the beginning said she was using lyric sheets? Is she stupid?

Simply beautiful. Plainly, obviously so. Vaughan’s voice is at times incomparable in pure beauty and smoothness. Her vocal indentations are incredible, as is her vibrato, and silky deeper register.

The songs themselves, well I could take them or leave them, but the way that they’re played, by the band, with those touches of cool jazz and bop, and the way that Vaughan sings them, which it should be obvious by now is practically unparalleled in the pantheon of vocal jazz songstresses, elevates them to a whole other level.

Also, it’s not at all too long. Only 35 minutes, it’s a really great length for an album like this. All of these things put together makes it an absolutely wonderful album.

DOES IT BELONG ON THE LIST: YES
REASON: Exposure to great live performances, by one of the best singers ever

Nice.

Favourite song: Stairway to the Stars

Rated 6/10

Not bad... enjoyable and good enough to put in a Jazz rotation for sure - with Ella & others. Not something I would actively seek out for creativity or overall sound, but certainly well produced with a great band and voice. 3+

Całkiem ciekawe doświadczenie, nie mogłam przestać vibe'ować w stylu Richarda i Adele z Grey's Anatomy.

Rated 8/10

Yet another live album, but I can understand the addition of this one. Sarah Vaughan ladies and gentlemen, what a voice. The recording quality and mixing is superb so if you couldn't hear the audience between the songs, you could hardly tell this is a live album. Anyway, strong 4 stars for this one.

"September In The Rain" really started this strong, and I thought that I was going to really get into this record. She has a wonderful voice, and if you're into slow jazz this feels like a must-have record. I'd love to say that I can see myself putting this on for a quiet Saturday evening at home, but I kinda doubt it would beat out other records in my collection.

The album cover is exactly my aesthetic though, it's almost worth buying on vinyl just for the display. Maybe I'll do that.

Jazz isn’t usually my bag. This live performance is kind of cool, but it just sounds a bit dull to me. Sarah’s voice is clearly strong, but it’s very forward and a bit strident to my ears. Maybe it’s the recording but I’m just not into this at all.

What a great live record

My immediate reaction to the album art: this is going to be corny & white. But, 1957, not white. Let's see.

Rated 10/10

Perfect album for a rainy day at home. I feel like under different circumstances I might feel different but today it’s 5/5.
