Rated 8/10

This album stands the test of time, it sounded different from the rest on release and there’s still nothing quite like it.

It mixes perfectly catchy singles like ‘clint eastwood’ and ‘19-2000’ with more experimental reflective songs like ‘M1 A1’ which builds to a full on rave.

‘Slow country’ feels like an atmospheric sibling of ‘Ghost town’.

Wonderfully crafted dark vignettes of northern England. Cocker crafts snapshots of the good the bad snd the creepy.
Pulp were always the darker side of the Britpop era but that is what makes them great. Despite that the songs here are so catchy, especially’Common People’ and ‘Disco 2000’.

Songs like ‘Mis-Shapes’, ‘something changed’ and ‘f.e.e.l.i.n.g.c.a.l.l.e.d.l.o.v.v.e’ are equally euphoric and highlight how despite being different from the mainstream acts of the mid/late nineties Pulp connected so well and their music stands the test of time

Not really a fan of late era Bowie and in particular i remember not liking what i heard off the final two albums. It was therefore surprising that this wasn’t as bad as i expected and certainly better than some of his other albums on the list.
Time and age has obviously worked in favour of ‘ where are we now’ as that is actually a great track. I also particularly enjoyed ‘I’d rather be high’ especially the lyric “Just remember duckies, everybody gets got”.
Also felt that the last few tracks are among the album’s strongest. Overall a solid collection rather than anything special though

I really dont like Bryan Ferry’s vocals. ‘Do the Strand’ sounds like the music is veering toward being out of tune following those vocals and is just a din.

‘Beauty Queen’ sounds like a sheep impersonating Elvis, but not as good.
Even looking past the vocals, the music is not enjoyable.

My god ‘The Bogus Man’ is just horrific

An album that proves even short songs can overstay their welcome. I enjoyed a lot of the songs here but the concept of a double album of this music is just too much.

I do love Rufus Wainwright’s voice (and piano), but this is not my favourite album of his (possibly not even my favourite’Want’). Technically brilliant but just lacks a song to properly grab you and lift it to just being a very good, very beautiful set of songs.

The music on this album is relatively enjoyable, if a bot too samey. My problem is that I dont really like Mick’s vocals. For odd songs it’s fine, but sustained over the full one hour plus its just horrific. His vocals also feel a bit too low in the mix for a lit of the album, which actually makes them worse.
I generally like a good bit of sax in songs but not so when they pipe up a lot of the time here (‘Happy’ being an exception).
Overall it’s probably a 2.5 but it’s not strong enough for a 3

I didn’t mind this, but it was firmly background music. I realised part way into it i had no idea how many tracks I’d listened to, as it just blurs from one track to another.

Nearest i can come to a positive is that ‘weeping’ at least has the constituent parts of a song. Not a good song but beggers cant be choosers on this album. ‘Ab/7A’ also has potential to be considered actual music.
Abysmal.

He may be grumpy old sod, but this is a great album.

‘And it stoned me’ is a great introduction, but the mellow laid back jazz of ‘Moondance’ just hits differently.
This standard is maintained by ‘Crazy love’ and ‘Caravan’.

‘Into the mystic’ conjures up American soul drifting down the highway on a warm sunny day.
The rest of the album doesn’t quite manage to hit the same heights but is still relatively strong

I feel i should like this album, but i just dont. Cant really pinpoint why, but it’s just not for me. Not bad enough for a 1/5 but i Will never listen to this again

Pleasant enough. Not sure i needed the extended crickets (?) to ‘Grass’.

I knew ‘Dear God’ from the film ‘It’ and constant TikTok videos from my daughter so have a lot of affection to that track and it is an outstanding track on its own merits.

Raucous, chaotic and charming. The Pixies manage to imply melody where it feels there shouldn’t be one.

Where is my Head? Has always been my favourite Pixies track and there is lots to support it present here. Just a f@@king good album

I love this album, but will admit the quality of the second disc drops a bit from the first. Ultimately this means it cant be a five but is still a strong four.

The singles off this album are insanely good. ‘Bullet..’ is a masterpiece with tracks like ‘tonight tonight’ and ‘1979’ not far behind.

This is such an ambitious grandiose affair it has to be on a list like this ❤️

In the main, this feels like atmospheric background music.
‘A Forest’ is a clear standout in that it is the only track that made me actually bother to check the title.
