Despite being long, it never quite loses its pacing, and I think it's its biggest trump card. We can talk about their overindulgence, the lazy recording style that made the album feel like an eclectic mess, and the bickering and absences of the core members of the Stones, but the truth of the matter is that Exile on Main St. has a lot of great moments that are well spaced out and stringed together. Rocks Off is an amazing Boogie track, the run from Tumbling Dice to Sweet Black Angel carries the mid, and the penultimate track that's an ode to Brian Jones caps off the album well.
It's also fun to hear their progression from a fairly popular band to one of the biggest bands in the world, and the change in musical style to reflect that. From this point, their albums would be more populated by 3 minute radio rock than a blues fascination they cultivated up to this point. Thankfully Exile on Main St. stands on that zenith between the uphill and the downhill, so we have the best of both worlds.

Sounds all the same...

Middle of the road (or street?)
Rated 8/10
fuuuuuuuuuck they actually made a good album
Standouts: Rocks Off • Rip This Joint • Tumbling Dice • Sweet Virginia • Loving Cup • Happy • All Down The Line • Stop Breaking Down
Rated 10/10
Look, easily one of the greatest rock and roll albums ever made, a pure classic and untouchable. What else to say…
Rated 6/10
Not too bad
Rated 6/10
Very easy to listen to this album despite being longer than one hour but it made me think they the stones are probably the longest running band for being a sacred cow, if you like rock then you like the stones but Mick Jagger is not the greatest song writer, not I've ever seen his name in that discussion. Someone else mentioned that the best moments were by guest musicians and I think he is right. It's like Gimme shelter, the best moment is the chorus not anything that the main members do. Not a single track is bad but not a single track in it's entirety is memorable beyond those piano, sax or trumpet parts. It did help me to find the names of those musicians and l discover new music. I probably won't listen to this album again.

Top : Tumbling Dice
Flop : I Just Want to See His Face

The Rolling Stones are overrated. Good, but not the best of all time.
Rated 8/10
Really cool grooves and vocals, the gospel inspirations pull most of the weight of the album, a bit long though.
Rated 8/10
Loving the blues rock of this album. I got so sick of The Rolling Stones' radio hits that are played constantly, listening to a full album with unfamiliar songs has been refreshing.
Rated 4/10
Apparently this is one of the greatest rock albums ever made, and I spent 67 minutes waiting to figure out why. Nothing here is particularly bad but nothing grabbed me either. Even the supposed standouts like Tumbling Dice and Rocks Off just sound fine. I really like Gimme Shelter (not on this album), so I know the Rolling Stones are capable of making me give a shit. This album just never did.

My dislike for the rolling stones grows
Rated 8/10

Rated 6/10
Man...

Day 9
"Oi Keith, what if we pretended to be American for a while?"
"Sounds good to me, Mick"
Fav track: Rocks Off
Rated 4/10
My second Rolling Stones and I’m wondering if maybe it’s just not extra special to me or maybe I just haven’t come across the right album. It’s fun! But maybe not for me.
Rated 6/10
I have to say, I was disappointed when I saw I had to listen to a Stones double album, but this wasn't that bad. It wasn't exactly great either, but I found myself enjoying more of it than the previous Rolling Stones albums. The saxophone was a nice addition as well.
