RisquéChic

Rated 4/10

short n sweet, with cest chic on the list i don't really think this needs to be on here but hey how about those basslines , disco forever party baby yeah

it's good, when there's so much of this sound out there now it feels like nothing special but i understand that this was very early and kind of shaped post punk into new wave or whatever. what are we even doing what am i talking about. idk but i like their later stuff better so this is a 3 !

i wrote a whole long thing but it didn't SAVE
basically it's good and undeniably influential but not my favorite Beatles but not my least favorite either, i love all the experimental weird stuff on this album but it's definitely not pet sounds

"white people have no culture" ok explain this then

kind of insane how many hits are on this considering it's their first album, definitely not my favorite steely dan but it's really so very good.. poppier and more commercial than any of their other records and i think that's why i like it less, the jazz is there for sure but not in its full capacity the way it is on aja. but god damn all these songs are so catchy

mehhh this didn't hit for me the way that neon bible did. i kept relistening to try to grab onto something but i just kept getting kinda bored. title track good though

definitely a time and place sort of thing. not really the vibe for my chill woodworking job but I'll definitely ride my bike fast as fuck to this later. loved the beth orton and noel gallagher joints. i wish nightclubs still played music like this, I'd probably go out a lot more

mannn this hit the spot. this is an album that i would definitely buy a physical copy of, will be coming back to it for sure. can't say I've ever sat down and listened to an entire salsa album. i love how they get you with the disco on track 1. this is what makes this project worth it, i can tolerate the overrated white dad rock if it means I'll keep discovering great stuff like this here and there

I'm at a loss for words with this one. it's just a masterpiece. my dad uploaded this on my mp3 player in late elementary/middle school and it definitely shaped my taste. punk, jazz, hip hop executed at the highest level. the whole record is absolutely killer but never ever takes itself too seriously. heart attack man one of my favorite songs ever. thank you

good shit... have heard lots of people talk about hot chip but have not listened outside of hearing their hits out in the wild
there's lots of different stuff in this and i like most of it. i love some global sounds in my synthpop, delighted to hear the italo disco and afrobeat influence on some tracks, flutes has those boopboop boop boops
good soundtrack for my lonely day in the frame shop i miss you joe

ok so i had never heard of these guys before and on paper this is something that should really hit for me but it didn't for a reason that i really can't identify... i almost turned it off after the first track, godawful
this project is making me see that vocal performances do actually impact how much i enjoy a piece of music, for the most part the instrumentals on this are good but not amazing but the singer and a lot of the lyrics being dumb really kind of kills it for me
i do see how they influenced later bands and that like indie Americana sound but I'm not really a huge REM guy either, i prefer the more slowcore songs to the rest of it
2.5/light 3

absolutely gorgeous, some great players in that studio band & excellent backup singers too. also goddamn beautiful crystal clear stunning mix??? i know this is still like plastic soul or whatever but dusty definitely the smoothest mf to come out of the uk,, name another British artist with this much sauce .. bowie doesnt count & his "soul" album was kinda mid
don't forget about me was my favorite

not my favorite velvet underground album for sure, didn't hit me quite like the banana album and white light white heat do. i think most of the songs just aren't weird enough. still a 4 though, what goes on was my fav

the kinks are so awesome, i had a good time listening to this. kind of punk??? a few times i walked into the front room at work and a random song from this was playing and i was like what the hell is happening.. i couldn't tell u what song it was.. probably gonna listen again and be more attentive to the different tracks but sunny afternoon is a classic . kinks are another band that my mom played a lot when i was a kid so they've got that special place in my memory too

didn't really listen as in depth as i usually do but had it on in the background for a while at work today and i was really surprised how much i liked what i was hearing i was like no way this is the sex on fire guys . this is their first album too so like what happened

yeah i love this shit . powerful catchy riffs, siouxsie's voice absolutely kills, & that drummingggg is just so good. love the slightly polished but still gritty diy sound. i haven't seen any recordings but i bet they had a really fun live show. perfect ooky spooky goth halloween time music. definitely gonna keep playing this one for a bit.
I'm gonna say it again. goth night at rips. on Thursday ok. see you guys there

neil young always hits for me. this album is a bit more melancholy than this is nowhere, but i really liked it!. the instrumentation makes it for me, I'm a sucker for some cryin steel guitar and a well picked banjo. loved the blues jams too

such a great album. the samples really make it for me, you can tell that these guys just really love all kinds of music. when i first listened through this i was ready to write something in my review about how hip hop with live drums is so much better, but after reading a bit i realized i was tricked! the mix is just that good!
i also really love the verse trading, they flow between each other so naturally it really feels like they're just hanging out and passing the mic around. this album was made with the power of friendship
minus one star for the date rape song though. if you just skip that one it's a 5/5

i think it's a sin is one of the best songs of all time tbh. lots of fun bangers. everything was so gay in the 80s wish i could've been there

i miss rips goth night who wanna go next Thursday
