I don’t get this project, man. Is this album *fine*? Sure. It’s perfectly OK. But it’s just a template of 60s hippie, renaissance fair, folksy bullshit. I read this guys Wikipedia page, and it sounds like he was an interesting dude that had some experimental shit, and some albums that really pushed boundaries. So why include the cookie cutter album? Why not one of the interesting albums that pushed boundaries and inspired experimentation?

I don’t know. His son’s album is miles better.

I think Hip Hop reflects its time more than any other type of music, which is a great credit to the artwork, but it also lends itself to sounding anachronistic when listening 35 years later. I like this album, let's just get that straight. I like it more than most albums that get the same star rating (again, please PLEASE give us half stars), but it does sound extremely dated – it's almost sweet.

I wish I could give it a higher rating, but it would be disingenuous to give it 4 stars, as there's no way this album would enter any sort of current rotation, it's just too dated. But if you're interested in the history of Hip Hop, this is a classic that cannot be missed.

This is a difficult one to rate, because half of the album is certifiable bangers that are very fun. The other half of the album is fine, but fairly forgettable. I can listen to the bangers now and forever, but don't care at all about the others. So how do I rate an album like that? It's 3.5 if this project had half stars.

I have long maintained that the 90s is the best era of music.

Even the best have their occasional slip-ups.

This album started out sounding like a Beatles tribute band, and morphed into the illegitimate love child of a Beatles tribute band and a Lemonheads tribute band. Then it went downhill from there.

A lowlight was the song I couldn’t really make out the lyrics because there was some very loud snoring. I had heard of Guided by Voices but for some reason I thought they were an American Christian band. After listening to 28 songs of this mess, I don’t think an American Christian band could have been worse.

On one hand, I remember kind of liking it as I was listening.

On the other hand, that was less than 24 hours ago and I remember almost nothing about it.

Sidenote, this album beat out OK Computer for that year’s NME award, which is yet another example of how worthless the NMEs are.

The thing about this album is that it’s really, really good, but even though I’m old enough to have listened to it new, I wasn’t into heavy music until much, much later. I think I said this on my review of the other Megadeth album, but I’ve always seen them as Metallica’s slightly cringy little brother, and I couldn’t have been more wrong. Metallica softened their sound and went supernova, but Megadeth were every bit their contemporaries in the heavy “thrash” genre. And they didn’t have a douchebag like Lars playing drums for them, so that counts for something.

This album is terrific. It’s better than I remember. I used to think Pre-Millennium Tension was Tricky’s best but I forgot just how good this one is. I do think it tails off a bit at the end, but the first 2/3 of the album is as good as you’re going to get in the Trip Hop genre. 4.5 stars, this is a banger.

It’s good, for what it is. Which is 70s punk, which means the bar is low. Theres very little on Wikipedia about the band or this album, except a quote that calls it the equal of the Sex Pistols debut.

I will simply say that although I do not like 70s punk very much, I have heard of the Sex Pistols, and their debut. I have never, until today, heard of the Adverts.

I’m not saying this album doesn’t belong here, it’s better than many I’ve heard, but I don’t know, man. No Deftones? No Tool? But this?

It’s fine. Cool to hear Queen Latifah randomly show up. She would have been a teenager, well before superstardom. To hear her pop up on a UK breakbeat album was definitely not on my bingo card for today.

Kind of weird, kind of punk, it was ok, I guess. There are too many albums in this project that I cannot figure out why I “have” to listen to them before I die. 2.5 stars.

Oh god, this is going to suck.

It's whatever, man. I'm getting so much 70s shit that it's all starting to meld together. It all sounds like three things: hippie shit, rock shit, or nascent punk shit.

It was decent. Not anything I'd listen to on the regular, but pretty good. I think this is considered New Wave? Apple Music has it listed as "Goth Rock" which is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. There's definitely a punk undercurrent, but the singer isn't a nasally, whiny little shit, and I think the rest of the band actually know how to play their instruments.

It's said to be a masterpiece, and while I wouldn't go that far, I can understand why it could be seen as such if it was released in 1979. I'm sure it completely blew the minds of lots of teenager when it was released.

It's OK, I suppose. I don't really like 70s punk that much, it really just sounds like everything else in this genre from its time. It's a 2.5 star album, it doesn't suck, but it's also not very good.

Song 2 is awesome. Very fun. The rest of the album is fine, but forgettable.
