Why is Springsteen iconic? I don’t understand it. And why and album from 2002? Wasn’t that a couple decades past his heyday?
Anyway, yuck. It's bad.

I don't know. It's fine. I wouldn't listen to it on purpose, but it's not offensive as background music. I can definitely see the bones of good music that came after, so I guess I appreciate the trailblazing aspect of what I'm listening to. and it's miles better than the Brian Eno album I got.
As an aside, I couldn't tell if the album cover is a lady, or a guy in drag. So I googled it, as one does, and apparently she married Mick Jagger's brother, and that's how I found out that Mick Jagger has a brother that, at one point, looked *just* like him.
I'm going to give this a 3 star review, but barely. I think it does some neat things, enough to sound fairly unique for its time, but at over an hour it's too long and it starts to drone. The singer doesn't seem to have much range, so it's the same aural equivalent of beige for the entire album. There's a little falsetto thrown in for harmony, but the vocals are not the highlight here.
Musically, again, it does some interesting things, enough to get my toes tapping on several occasions. I don't think I'd seek it out, or crave to listen to it again, but I'd be open to it. Thus, a very uninspired three stars.

Nope.

I can always get behind a concept album critiquing the fascism of the American conservative and christian right. Nearly 30 years old, and these messages are needed now more than ever. Who ever would have thought the words, "Well, Marilyn Manson tried to warn us" would be a thing?
Anyway, politics and social commentary aside, this album is dynamite. It's MUCH harder than I think I realized, without sacrificing melodies. The Trent Reznor influence is strong in this one, and it remains, I believe, the bands best work.
Well, I don’t like it. It sounds like something my grandfather, who was born in 1929, would have liked. So I’ll give it three stars because it made me think of my grandpa.
Rated 6/10
Pretty decent. It’s kind of a solid 3 stars. I wouldn’t mind listening to it again but I probably wouldn’t seek it out.
Rated 4/10
Very little to like here. It's a very specific, early 70s punk sound, where the singers all adopted the same nasally affect and they all took pride in not being able to play their instruments well. I have respect for the fact that I, intellectually, understand that it was groundbreaking and foundational, so I'll add a star for that, but I did not like this album at all.

This is music that white Americans who pretend to be Irish listen to. They predominantly live on the East Coast, most likely Boston or Philadelphia. They like pahhking cahhs, and drinking in bahhs. They often get into fistfights and a large part of their vocabulary is racist and homophobic slurs. Most of them are named Tommy (which they pronounce as Towmy), Mikey, Sully, or Marky (Mahhky). They won't shut up about their city's sports teams. They REALLY like fistfights.
Anyway, the album is pretty good. I couldn't listen to it all the time, but as a change of pace, I don't hate it. Every song sounds the same, though.

Too long. I like my electronic to be a little harder than this. But overall it’s not bad.
Rated 8/10
I think it's pretty good. It's definitely reminiscent of the early aughts vibe of Jet, The Vines, Kaiser Chiefs, The Strokes, etc. I'm going to give it a 4, which I feel might be half a star too high, but I've had an AWFUL 2 weeks, and I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to hear something that isn't 80s pop or 70s rock.
Rated 6/10
It's OK. Not really my jam, but I can tell it's pretty good if you're into this sort of thing, which is bluesy soft rock.
Rated 4/10
Not great. Not awful, I suppose. It's just kind of bland. I'll give it a 3. I don't think I really ever want to listen to it again, but I can't really say that it's "bad."
but I don't like it.
Rated 4/10
I cannot connect to this in the slightest. It is SO long before my time, and it is music made for a population and community that I am not a part of, and that I do not romanticize is the slightest. In short, it is nigh unlistenable.
Rated 6/10
It’s whatever. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. It’s fine.
Rated 8/10
Surprisingly excellent. I say "surprisingly" because I very much dislike 80s pop. This, however, was very good. There was definitely some 80s cheese, but for some reason it just didn't grate on me the way 80s music normally does.
I know it's a bit cliche to say, but this just sounds different. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but there were interesting soundscapes and offbeats that you just don't normally hear in this genre. Frankly, it's a little weird in the best possible way.
3.5 stars for sure, but I enjoyed it enough I might give it a second listen, so I'm bumping to 4 stars.
Rated 4/10
goddammit, this might be the worst week I've ever had in this project.
This album sucks and I hate it. It doesn't make me mad, so it doesn't get one star, but it's very bad.
Rated 6/10
It's 80s pop. Most of it is actually OK, considering I hate 80s pop. It's simultaneously Paint By Numbers 80s pop, yet for some reason it's way more catchy than irritating.
I can't explain it, but I'm giving it 3 stars.
Rated 2/10
I've had an awful week. a bunch of 70s rock and a 90s Bob Dylan album which, let's be honest, is pretty much just 70s rock plugged into an amp. So I was *really* hoping for something good today. Imagine my chagrin when I opened the page and found...this.
Song 1: As bad as I feared.
Song 2: This is worse.
Song 3: I hate - HATE her voice. It's weird and nasally and doesn't have a single redeeming quality.
Song 3: WTF is this shit? Why is this considered "punk?" The whole album is just bad pop music without the benefit of a good voice.
Song 4: They can't all be this bad, right?
Song 5: Wrong.
Song 6: I just texted my wife, "fuck me this is terrible." I think I undersold it.
Song 7: It's almost over. There might be a god after a...IT'S NINE MINUTES LONG?! Honestly, the best song on the album by a MILE
Song 8: and we're right back to nasally bullshit.
So, this is NOT punk rock. It's bullshit, is what it is. Listen to Land (song 7) and then go on about your day. This should be in the book 1001 Albums To Avoid Until You Die.
Rated 4/10
Nope. There's too much 60s/70s hippie shit in this project, and this is exhibit A as to why. Is this a good example of what was the dominant sound in rock at one point? Sure. Is it *the* shining example of its genre? Is it massively influential? Is it a foundation for tons of artists that came after? I doubt it. Am I better for listening to it before I died? I highly doubt it.
I don't know. I'm sure if you were around when this was new, you're probably all nostalgic about how awesome the weed was in 1968, and how the Summer of Love was the zenith of American culture...but if not you'll probably, like me, find it tedious and cliche.
