This is a top album, a true classic, and one where every track hits.
The Clash’s debut album feels like the blueprint for British punk. It captures the energy, attitude, and urgency of the time perfectly. It’s raw, fast, and direct, but there’s also a sharpness to the songwriting that lifts it above a lot of other punk records from the same era.
Tracks like White Riot and Remote Control are punk at its absolute best, full of aggression and purpose, but still tight and memorable. The whole album moves at pace and never really lets up, which is exactly what you want from a record like this.
Favourite track: White Riot, fast, aggressive, and completely iconic
Least favourite track: London’s Burning, still good but doesn’t hit the same level as the rest
Album artwork: Iconic, simple and instantly recognisable
