This was a very welcome surprise. It really sounded like a mid 80’s album when it wasn’t one, feels a few years ahead of its time. It’s New Wave and a bunch of other things rolled into one. Probably need some more listens on it but I already found multiple enjoyable songs on my first listen.

DummyPortishead

Rated 8/10

I like this much more than the other Portishead album on here. It's a beautiful album with this sort of haunting atmosphere to it. None of the sounds sound like any real conventional instrument or sound. Singing is a bit sparse and leaves room for the music to breathe. It's a really unique album in how it does things and it's executed really well.

Pitchfork probably drools over this. Its got some noticable Post rock elements to it and pushes the boundaries of what boring Indie rockers are allowed to sound like. I also really don't like this slop. I find it boring and unsatisfying and it seems way too far up it's own ass. Nothing of this album is gonna be remembered by me except the goofy vocals and the few incredibly awkward and unpleasant song parts.

I found this to be a bit less impressive than their debut. It's got some iconic barnstormer songs on it though. It has a grandiose scale to it that songs like Champagne Supernova really manage to showcase well. It does have the classic Oasis flaws. Production is way too loud and some of the songs just go on and on and on and the entire album kind of feels pompous. But still, I enjoy it for what it is.

RepeaterFugazi

Rated 8/10

Good, but not really a stand out in Fugazi's repetoire. All the ingredients are there but I just don't find it as engaging or interesting as their other work. The earlier and later stuff are both a bit better IMO. Can't really go wrong with them though.

Was surprised to find out I already knew a song from here. Quite a good album, nothing really here to complain about. The right amount of noise for me with good track length and album length in general.

The Kinks have a really consistent discography, and this sure is part of it. There's an overarching theme, yet every song here is single worthy in its own right. The Kinks are just really good and consistent while making their own special niche of music that can't really be replicated by other bands.

Some good here and some bad. Some of it still sounds nice and quite a bit of it sound dated, unfocused and pretty stretched out. The first track is a great hit and I do like some of the other songs here. But it's not a very consistently good album, it kind of shows the best and worst aspects of this era of Hip Hop.

Dumb rock in a similar manner to Limp Bizkit, but with much more edge and less fun. Still fun to listen to, can't say these songs aren't memorable and make for a perfect soundtrack to a drunk driving binge. It's just stupid fun to scream these choruses at the top of your lungs.

Every song the Stranglers make just seems to be enjoyable. I find it hard to really call them Punk, but they are a sort of proto New Wave / Art rock band with some Punk elements to it. They just make really nice songs, not too long or too short. They all sound different from one another while still being somewhat similar.

LowDavid Bowie

Rated 10/10

This album is incredibly strong in it's atmosphere. It doesn't have songwriting as good as Ziggy Stardust or Station to Station, but it makes up for it with it's own strength. Brian Eno and Bowie are a great combination together and the album itself makes a great listen. The first side starts off normal and then gradually the album becomes more and more sprawling and atmospheric. Great and influential piece of work, I can see how Pitchfork called it the best 70's album at one point.

Very aggressive, who would've thought with a Metal album. Been a while since I listened to it but I enjoyed it. First songs are especially great. Does get a bit tiresome at the end, as with other Metal albums, but it's not long enough for it to really be a hinderance.

Inventor of noise rock some 20 years before the matter. Not an album to really listen to all that often, it's quite grating and songs like Waldo's Gift lose their novelty when listened to more often. Still one I always like to return to, Lady Godiva is my favorite here and I think a lot of the non Sister Ray songs on here are pretty underrated. The hardest but probably most rewarding Velvet Underground album to listen to, even if it's still pretty tame by todays standards.

Starting the morning with some 1 hour of acoustic Bob Dylan and shrieking low quality audio harmonica wasn't a very pleasant way to start my workday. I've come to realize I don't really care for most of his earlier stuff, exceptions notwithstanding. The second side made up a lot for it, sounds so ahead of its time! Not something I'd listen to again probably, I don't think these renditions really offer a better version of the songs than the originals.

En-TactThe Shamen

Rated 6/10

Bit of a long sit-through. I can understand why this has such a low average rating, but I liked it. It was a bit boring at times, but there were a number of nice and groovy songs on here that I actually enjoyed. You can't really hear the Psychedelic influence they started with on here anymore. Such a trailblazer too, kind of hard to imagine this came out in 1990.

Gran Turismo has everything I like about the Cardigans on it, this one had everything I dislike. There's cool influences here, the album sounds almost Jazz-esque at times. It's fucking boring though. The vocals can put me to sleep and the gentle way in which the entire album plays out doesn't help. The Iron Man cover is a fun gimmick and all I'll probably revisit here.

The previous Public Image album was a bit of slog with it's monotony and sometimes awful noises compiled onto it. This one still carries on with the drone-y and repetitive song structure, but does it better and gets rid of the awful sound. The bass carries this album a lot, it almost makes it some sort of Disco album. No particular favorite since it took me 3 days to completely listen to it, but the album was good enough.

Rid of MePJ Harvey

Rated 8/10

I wish PJ Harvey made more albums like this one. I really like the heavy, almost Grunge like sound going on here. I think it fits her well and makes for a good sounding album. The entire loud / soft dynamic that was popular is on here as well, after the first songs build up it just barrels ahead.

The SliderT. Rex

Rated 8/10

Some nice classic rock music here. Not his best album, but most of his albums are simiarily good anyways. I do like the music here, but it can feel a bit chaotic at times. Electric Warrior had more focus and some better songwriting I feel, this can sort of drown in the chaos at times. I guess that’s part of the charm of Glam as well.

Sure is a Madchester album. Not really a memorable one though. Just kind of sounds like a less interesting Stone Roses. They have a sort of American tinge to some of their songs, but I really didn't find anything memorable. Not bad, not really noteworthy either if you aren't into the scene.
