This kind of feels like listening to some missing step in evolution. It's fun to hear how this really closes the bridge between the 2000's Alternative Rock and the 2010's Party music era sonically. It's more polished and more Party-ish than something like the White Stripes or Franz Ferdinand. Not entirely my thing, but enjoyable enough for a listen. Heads Will Roll is relaly cool and kind of feels out of place on here as well.

Can't really discredit any of the work he did. He's a genius and the genius is on display here. It kind of just feels like one of his many 70's albums here. It's good enough but doesn't really stand out to me. The novelty of this Synth driven experimental Pop was already a bit less in the late 70's. Can't say I was all that wowed by it this time around.

Jazz classic. Effortlessly Cool, imagine if they called this genre Cool Jazz or something. Take Five is the one Jazz song people who dislike Jazz can still stomach. The rest of the album is nice too. There aren't all that many Jazz albums on here, but even then this would be a weird one to ever omit. Perhaps the best 50's album on the list? I really like it, this and Time Further Out started my appreciation for the genre.

PearlJanis Joplin

Rated 8/10

Finally, Janis Joplin shedded from Big Brother & The Holding Company. I don't dislike the band, but they feel like any other basic 60's Blues Rock band while Janis Joplin is something special. She can belt really well on songs like the opening track. The songs are more creative and the performances are better than ever before. Shame this is the last of her work, Mercedes Benz would've probably been great as a fully completed song as well.

Just not my thing, I can safely conclude after like 4 Randy Newman albums. Objectively it's not bad, but not really my thing. Humor has not aged all too well on some tracks but that doesn't really bother me much. I guess I just don't like lyrically oriented music that much to begin with, especially when it's mostly a humorous effort rather than sad or angry. Can't really dislike it, it's short and decent enough to listen to.

Grateful Dead studio albums are great, this one perhaps even better than most of their Live works. Noodling on Dark Star for 20 minutes is cool and all, but this one is a Country Rock classic. Even though I've had a few similar albums the past few weeks, this one still stands out. It sounds soft and the Guitar playing especially is great. I really like Friend of the Devil and Truckin' in particular. Live versions are still cool but knowing this album through and through helps elevate those Live versions.

Classic Reggae, exactly what I like it to be. Pounding Drums and Bass with some relaxed but apt social commentary. It's still not my favorite genre, but within said genre this is probably the type of Reggae album I like the most. Burning Spear is also just a really cool artist name.

Devo needs to sort out their discography on streaming services. Everything is accessible but it looks really ugly and messy to pair their debut with some random Live album. The album itself is fine enough. Classic early New Wave with some great and goofy tunes on it. Devo can get kind of annoying though. some of the repeating phrases here just kind of irk me and makes some songs less than pleasant to listen to. It's goofy fun but still. If it had Whip It on here it would have gotten 5 stars.

God, some of the most cliché and of the era music on this list. It exists in this weird space where it's clearly done by Prog musicians but cannot be called Prog. It's half influenced by Pop like Air Supply as well as shit like white people Disco. At most this is like the 14th best album Steve Winwood is featured on. No real hits on here to speak of. Yet, I cannot really dislike it. It's competent and I guess something of the era of 1980 had to be somewhere on this list. I can find enough enjoyable stuff out of this.

There is a good Folk album here, hidden behind all the overproduced trumpets and choires. I was quite hyped for this one, despite the low rating on here. From the golden age of Americana and Folk music from an artist I'd never heard of. It doesn't really sound all that American or gothic at all though. I find these songs to be quite beautiful, until that damn orchestra comes in and clashes with the vibe it nailed before. Folk can certainly mix with other styles but this one doesn't mix. I still like it somewhat, but it's hard to look past some of the awful stylistic choices here.

Rated 8/10

Run of the mill Folksy album. Feels like this was a cut above all the more basic Greenwich village stuff from the early 60's, with a bit more experimentation going on. Some extended songs and good Guitar work throughout. The Raga at the end transforms a somewhat generic album into a pretty good Classic and makes for a welcome change. Not a bad job.

Being free from the sparse instrumentation of the White Stripes is very noticable on this record. There are instruments and song build ups here that you wouldn't really notice or find in White Stripes albums. Violins, background singers and whatnot. Not really a preferred style of Jack White for me, but an interesting effort nonetheless. It's a good album but feels kind of inconsequential. Not something to move the state of Rock forward but just something mildly enjoyable.

AtomizerBig Black

Rated 6/10

Good and all and influential and all, but they didn't really manage to mash Industrial Noise and Punk together like a Sonic Youth did. I did enjoy my time with it, but it just isn't really on the level that their other famous album is either. Still, nice to have abrasive jarble that does sound like proper music at times.

Rated 10/10

Joy Division is just a really good band who made two really good albums. They have atmosphere like no other. It really puts you in a certain fucking upbeat depressive mood that I really enjoy. Godspeed to Joy Division.

It doesn't often happen anymore that I am really surprised by an album. This was a really great listen. I really like the Alt Rock / Americana vibe they got going here. It's soulful and melodious but still loud and energetic at times. I really liked the atmopshere on here. Surprised to see this was a band as well, rather than just one guy.

Knew their one hit but not their other stuff. Not really crazy seeing as they are mostly a one hit wonder. It's all fine. Bit of the Madchester vibe here. Doesn't really do much to stand out from the crowd but they made a nice and cheery album with a cheery cover. Not all that memorable, but what really can be 900+ albums in. I do really really like Connected the song though.

Feargal Sharkey Punk. Close the list, I've heard it all now. Despite sounding like a giant clash between 80's cheese and 70's Punk, the album itself just sounds kinda like the run of the mill Punk. Fast paced and loaded with short and catchy songs. Nice enough to keep listening after the regular album was over. Some goofy interpolations and covers that give this album it's quirks. Worthy listen. Thank you, Feargal Sharkey, famous from his 1980's hit song A Good Heart.

ElectricThe Cult

Rated 10/10

Finally, some good music. I really like the Cult and their straddling of the lines between Alternative and Hard Rock has always been interesting to me. Why they chose Electric, over either of the two albums surrounding it god knows, but at least it gives a reason to visit this one. There's some real barnstormers and live staples of them here, the Born to be Wild cover I found to be surprisingly decent as well. The Cult is just a bad that seems to be able to pull off everything they try pretty well. Five stars, I haven't had a really good album in over two weeks.

Stellar line up of artists, fronted by the most influential man in all of Jazz. Right at the forefront of discovering the sound that would become what pretty much all of 70's and onwards Jazz would be about. This sounds nothing like the Fusion that would be known as Fusion later on in the decade. This is a bit more of a difficult listen and in a good way. Its eccentric and has this out of the world energy to it. Good reason to turn on the record player again. I will say that the second half that I accidently listened to first does kind of sound duller than the first one. Hugely influential but not one I turn to often.

Don’t think this needed to be as long as it was. Really like it at first, it does cheesy 80’s better than a lot of what the rest of the artists spent this decade trying. Some of the best New Jack Swing one could find. The runtime was a bit long though and I didn’t really get many memorable songs out of the album past the first few.
