I remember seeing Rocket From The Crypt on Top of the Pops playing On a Rope and thinking that was a lot fun. That song has made it into most of my playlists throughout the years, but I'd never listened to the album. Is it a great album? Nah, it's all too samey. Did I enjoy listening? You betcha!🤘

DryPJ Harvey

Rated 6/10

Yet again, I really want to like PJ Harvey, and yet again, I'm getting annoyed by her music. I'm disappointed in myself more than anything else.

To be fair, I did like this album more than the other 2 we've had on the 1001 list so far, so a bonus point for that.

I picked up at copy of this in my teens (in the mid 90s) and listened to it relentlessly for a year or so. It was great! Then hardly listened to it since.

With the 1001 list, after disliking a couple of Public Image albums, I started to doubt if I'd still enjoy Sex Pistols... turns out I do, a lot!

Always liked Sinead O'Connor for her personality.

As for the album, gets off to a slow start, picks up with tracks 4 and 5, Nothing Compares 2 U is as hauntingly beautiful as ever... then the rest of the album goes downhill from there.

Rated 6/10

I recall listening to this a bunch of times when it first came out. Relistening today, I only remembered Beetlebum and Song 2, which are still great, but zero nostalgia of anything else.

On first listen, I didn't like it. Felt that it was some kind of Lou Reed tribute. But there are moments of authenticity that make me think I should relisten to this later. Like maybe when I'm drunk on a couch in Nashville.

Let's get the obvious out the way... **cough** Nirvana Unplugged **cough**

I really like the artwork.

The album is quite chaotic, lots going on and all over the place. I can't quite tell if that's the intention or poor production value.

I like all the tracks that Nirvana covered, probably some sort of conformity bias going on there.

Mixed feelings on this as an album.
Did I enjoy listening to Dusty Springfield, yes very much so!
Do I feel this is anything more than a loose collection of cover songs? Not really.

That said, Son of a Preacher Man is a stellar track... an extra star, thanks to Mr. Tarantino!

Kashmir is such an epic track!

The rest of the album gets lost in itself, probably because it's too long. Reduce the runtime and excessive bluesy riffs and it'd be a much more engaging listen.

Title track is as epic as ever! As much as I like fast rock, the rest of the album feels samey. Blissfully ignoring the topical pubescent lyrics. 😬

I learnt to play bass to many of these tracks, (well, the Greatest Hits album), still holds much nostalgia for me. There are couple of lacklustre tracks, but overall enjoyed relistening!
