I enjoyed the first couple tracks well enough but then the rest of the album sounded exactly the same.

Finally, some MPB and Tropicália again! 𝘊𝘢𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘰 𝘝𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘰 is a wonderful reminder of how adventurous Brazilian popular music had become by the late 1960s. Psychedelic rock, traditional Brazilian rhythms, orchestral arrangements, and catchy pop melodies all find their way onto the same record, sometimes within the same song.
What I particularly like is how little Veloso seems to care about keeping these styles separate. The music can turn from gentle and melodic to wonderfully eccentric without losing its charm. His warm, understated voice holds everything together, even when the arrangements seem determined to go somewhere completely unexpected.
There is plenty of experimentation here, but it rarely comes at the expense of a good song. Colourful, playful, and full of surprises. After so many familiar British and American records, this is a particularly welcome change of scenery.

Бразильська класика, причому мені здаєтся що я на якомусь з фестивалів в середині десятих пропустив виступ пана Каетану і жалкував.
Люблю таке і ставлю 4.

Was kinda dreading this when I got it. Psychedelic Rock is the bane of my existence when it comes to this list.
But this isn't half bad. Still gonna give it a middling rating, but the bossa nova is helping it avoid a lot of the stuff that makes me hate psych rock (Random noodling that goes nowhere, ren-faireisms).
So yeah, decent enough album, but I'm just not going to be into 60's psych.

Enjoyed it a lot. Wanted to listen to more. Did. Read the personal life on Wikipedia. Oh no.

I was about halfway through this, thinking it would be a "fine but not for me," probably 3 stars... Then I started to look at some of the reviews, so thanks for saving me the time of listening to the rest 🙃

Starting to really love Tropicália. This a really cool varied album.

My second diddler this week, which is two too many. It's a shame as well, the music is quite enjoyable and the album art is lovely. Rating it purely on that it's a 3, but that might change later

Not for me, even ignoring the pedophilia

Yeah, this isnt bad but I really dont need to hear this ever again.

Whilst I recognise how this music was important in terms of Brazilian culture and politics, it doesn't do a lot for me in 2026. Pleasant enough to have on in the background, but the music is fairly pedestrian most of the time, and the inability to understand the Portugese lyrics always is a barrier to my enjoyment of such things.

Oh my. Another one with a preference for 13 year olds that we need to apply the "review the music, not the artist rule" to.
Which would be a lot easier if the music didn't sound like Portugal's 12th placed entry in the 1965 Eurovision Song Contest.
Hard to like this one.

Die 60er Mischung aus Avantgarde, Bossa und psychedelischem Pop ist oft mehr Konzept als überzeugender Song, und Velosos Experimente stolpern häufiger, als sie glänzen.

He looks like he's staring into my soul on the cover, but the music is much morre frothy and fun.

I went into this album totally blind, and since I don't speak a word of Portuguese, I wasn't sure what to expect. Turns out, I’m a big bossa nova fan and this was such a great find. The lush textures and super laid-back vocals got this infectious, sunny energy that totally makes the language barrier a non-issue.
That said, with so much "artistic cannibalism" happening, it can definitely veer into chaotic, psychedelic mess territory at times, and the raw '60s production definitely shows its age. Not every weird experiment lands, but the overall vibe is undeniably groovy. Tracks like "Soy Loco Por Ti, América" and "Alegria, Alegria" are absolute masterclasses in smashing different musical worlds together. It’s a super fascinating listen that definitely has me wanting to dive way deeper into the genre.

Good album, good pick for the list.

Nice to have something a bit different on this list
