The only way to sing "We are the priests, of the Temples, of Syrinx" is with complete confidence and conviction.

Rush understood the assignment.

Fantastic band. My favourite early British punk album - probably not a very punk opinion.

This album is a fantastic achievement in production and originality. I don’t believe there was anything that sounded quite like this at the time.

Why it’s not getting 5 ⭐️: There’s a section in the middle (Ruiner -> Big Man With A Gun) where the teenage-school-shooter-manifesto lyrics and delivery start to get a bit repetitive and on-the-nose. Needed a vibe shift. A Warm Place was a welcome relief and it picks up again at the end.

Why go out for British classic rock when we've got American classic rock at home?

American classic rock:

Aphex Twin added a chaotic, human energy to electronic music and his overall body of work is immense. One of a handful of artists who changed the way I think about what music can be.

It would be easy to say this is dated compared with his later releases - which grow in range and complexity - due to the preset Roland drum machine sounds but I think it adds to the charm here.

I fondly remember the singles from (what we are now calling) the Indie Sleaze era in London. I think they still hold up.

Not that many other standouts across the album though. Decent dance punk vibes.

Mixed back for me. I prefer LZ when they lean away from blues rock and lean more into psychedelic/mystical vibes so I wish this was even more of the latter. Still kind of like Black Dog though.

Favourite tracks: Battle of Evermore, Going to California, Four Sticks

Least favourite: Rock and Roll, Misty Mountain Hop

I'm not a big Millennial pop guy but this is decent Millennial pop and I'm now totally invested what TayTay does after this, both personally and musically, but mainly personally.

It's refreshing to get an actual original, innovative album released in the last 20 years on the list, as opposed to middling releases by legacy artists and Millennial dad rock.

I respect their commitment to a consistent sound - the same simple drum beat throughout most of the songs. It's well produced and, on the extended tracks, quite hypnotic at times.

But when it ended, it was like it never happened. I can't remember anything about it. Sort of like a dream where nothing happened.

I put on a similar vibes album after (Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever - Hope Downs), and I like that one a lot more.
