Enjoyable record. I can see why it's on the list. Never cared for the song There She Goes, although I guess I was only familiar with the Sixpence None the Richer version.

I've heard of this band many times, but I've never listened to any of their albums. I guess from context I was thinking they were more like My Bloody Valentine. This record is pretty soft and jangly, although the vocals are a bit morose. I guess that was the idea. Anyway, I liked it. It's good for what it is, as they say.

I like Drive You Home, Life's an Ocean, and (Reprise). The rest pretty much sounds like middle-of-the-road 90s alt-rock, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't stick to my ribs. The production is a little too neat and bloodless and the vocals too prominent.

Musically, I don't know if I would say this is bad, per se, but not something I would listen to again. It's also too long. And though I am not usually one to police speech, especially in art, the lyrical subject matter is hard to ignore and/or dismiss.

I remember being excited to hear a Zappa album for the first time, many years ago. I had one friend in particular who thought Zappa was a genius, but that guy had tastes outside my own at the time, including free jazz and stuff like that. I don't remember which album it was, but I immediately didn't like it. Fast forward 25 years and Hot Rats came up for me on the generator, and I gave it a 3. I didn’t love it, but I did consider that I might have been wrong all those years ago. So now we get to test this theory again. Well, this album was going along okay but they really lost me with the last two tracks. If I want something wild from this era, I’ll stick with the Velvet Underground and the 13th Floor Elevators.

Love Wilco. This is roughly my 10th favorite album of theirs (if you count Mermaid Ave 1 & 2), but it's still four stars for me. A lot of the songs on here have been honed to a sharp point over the years and become linchpins of their lives shows, so going back and listening the original recordings can be underwhelming. I still don't like What's the World Got in Store, which sounds like a 9th grader wrote it, and my favorite song here is the simple and beautiful Someone Else's Song.

Radiohead is responsible for three of my top 20 albums of all time, but this is not one them. It sounds like it could be a compilation of the most forgettable tracks of the post-OK Computer era. For people who don’t “get” Radiohead, I imagine all their stuff sounds like this to them.

I can see why some people like this and some don't. I wasn't too impressed but there was juuust enough shambolic charm to save it from a two-star rating.

There were parts of songs that I thought were good, but I thought it was kind of uneven and my overall impression was not good.
