We get it. Its hipster cool and clever to make ironic country music. But sometimes being hipster cool and clever is just a way to avoid actually putting in the effort to pour yourself into something vulnerable and meaningful. This album just sounds lazy.

Martina Topley-Bird make this album great. She is one of the most overlooked artists of all time.

I guess if I were some middle-aged twice divorced guy who just brought a lady friend home from the corner bar I might consider putting this on to set the mood.

Phenomenal bass lines!
It's hard to get past the goofy '80s style. I'm having fun listening to it but I'm not sure I would would put it on by choice.

I grew up on the reruns. Its shocking to learn that there were only 2 seasons. It seemed like a bottomless well. Despite the nostalgia... No thanks.

This album parodies a bunch of crappy musical genres, tropes, and artists. The guys are talented enough to 100% nail the parody. And oftentimes it's pretty funny. But the problem with intentionally copying shitty music is that, if you get right, your music also has to be shitty.

....ok, wait I spent some time researching this. I expected some breakdowns about the cleverness of the parody. Nope, this was all for real. Pharrell has later back peddled, made excuses, and apologized, but mostly made excuses.

This dropped from a 2-3 to a 1 star.

The Flaming Lips always catch me off guard. I know that I like them, but I never think to put on their albums. Then I have a reason/excuse to listen, and I'm blown away all over again.

At first I was going to give this three stars. In my rating system that means " I wouldn't put it on but I wouldn't mind if it was on in the background". Like most cocktail lounge jazz, the drums in piano are just doing their little pleasant wandering around . But then that bass! The bass will make me put this back on again

This is not my favorite U2 era. But it's still a damn well made album.

I understand that when a artist rubs you the wrong way it's hard to appreciate their music. And I understand why some people have that feeling about U2. But let's be realistic about what their biggest crimes are . One of the four band members is notoriously self-righteous, and they tried giving music away for free. That's pretty much the whole list of offenses. Yet somehow that gets them lumped into the category of " artists we are all supposed to hate", which is a list that also includes child predators, criminals, and other actual horrible people who have done real harm in the world. Let's get some prospective people.

In my standard rating system this would get four stars. But it's getting five five to offset some of the childish, douchebaggery other reviewers on this project.

I can't.

A lot of people have started hating Clapton's music because they found out what I prick he is. I get that, but it really over complicates the issue. I have always hated his music, because it's uninspired drivel. That's good enough for me.

It's definitely not their best. There are 2 "greatest hits" songs on here, a couple of "pretty decent", several "meh", and nothing really terrible.

probably a 3.5, and I feel like i need to round down
