Quiet LifeJapan

Rated 6/10

I’m glad to see others making the Duran Duran comparisons so I don’t have to. Not a bad album, but mostly forgettable.

I’ve always had a negative opinion on Arcade Fire but I couldn’t tell you why. This album didn’t change this.

I used to love Foo Fighters when I was younger and I’ve heard this album a thousand times, though it’s been awhile. I feel like now that I’m older this album feels so long, and it starts to drag after the first four songs. My favorite Foos song always used to be For All the Cows for some reason and I think that remains true.

There is something about this dude’s voice that I’ve always loved and I’ve never been able to pinpoint it, and his songs are great too. Overall this was a great album but I feel like a few songs could’ve been shorter.

I’ve probably seen Korn live more than any other band despite never listening to an album. In high school all my scumbag friends loved Korn and I’ll never say no to live music. That being said I thought this album was bad. Freak on a Leash is undeniably badass, but All in the Family is where I had to tune out and just let the album exist in the background. Holy fuck what a bad song. I should’ve stopped at Children of the Korn because that was terrible too.

TuskFleetwood Mac

Rated 6/10

This sounded to me like four people trying to make a Fleetwood Mac album while Lindsey Buckingham was trying to make a Ween album. Christine was the VIP here in my opinion.

The first time I did shrooms I watched a video of Jimi performing live and it was incredible. However the longer it went on the more frustrated I became because he made it seem so effortless to play guitar.

Anyway yeah, this guy is good.

I get the feeling that these guys are the only 80’s band that didn’t at least try doing coke before hitting record. The songs themselves weren’t bad, but they were all monotonous and some were simply too long.

This whole album sounds definitively 80’s so I was surprised to learn it was recorded so early in that decade. Don’t You Want Me is one of those songs that I’m willing to bet at least 90% of the planet has heard before, and that’s a tremendous achievement, but I wish there was at least one other song on the record as good as that one.

My only complaint is that I couldn’t follow along with translations as I was working at the time, but that’s 100% on me. Despite the language barrier I still really enjoyed this one and I’ll definitely listen to it again.

★David Bowie

Rated 10/10

I had a rough week and wasn’t emotionally prepared for this one. The last time I heard it was when it was released, and it hits me just as hard now as it did then.

HorsesPatti Smith

Rated 8/10

Patti walked so that so many others could run. I appreciate this album, and I’m sure after a few more listens I’ll want to change my rating to a 5.
