Oh, God. Reading the reviews for this one scares me. Ok, it actually isn't nearly as bad as the reviews would suggest. Is it good? Not really, with plenty of mediocre vocals and some annoying instrumentals. I'm not really sure what genre it's supposed to be or how to describe it, but I do know that it isn't completely terrible. It's not a great album, but you all really need better ears if you think that this is the worst thing on the list.

Ooh one of the most disliked albums in this generator 😭

It's giving serial killer clown vibes. Did no one also quality check these dudes' voices and instruments?? They just clash together like playing music in a band while drunk 😳 (1.5-2).

Rated 2/10

Well, today I learned: the only thing I hate more than folk is...........psychedelic folk.

This album is a drugged up collection of weird, medieval sounding 'tunes' with bad singing, pointless instrumentation and ridiculous lyrics. Honestly, why is 'The Cellular Song' so freaking long when it is absolute, stone-cold, certified bollocks?!?!?!?!? I really hope these people felt silly when the drugs finally wore off and they looked at what they had bestowed upon the world.

There are not enough drugs in the world to make me want to listen to this again. NEVER.

This was psychedelic and long, all right. You know, I could confidently describe this as medieval-sounding sea shanties. It certainly has its charm, but that's all I can say for it.

Pre Listen:
Never heard of this group, but I dig the album cover. Chancing a guess that it'll be string-based music based on the band's name? If not I will feel misled, and give them a 1 for being liars.

Notable Tracks:
Koeeoaddi There - Ah! Heard a Bell and other percussion instruments! Instant 1. Nah this is neat, it's giving Renaissance style mixed with Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd and Psychedelia Era Beatles. Wondering if it'll get old before the end of the album though.
A Very Cellular Song - Frustrating song, it has my favorite section in the whole album "Good Night" is a joyful ditty, somewhat catchy, and carries good vibes. Every other part of the song is bad.
Swift as the Wind - Least favorite song, and exemplifies everything wrong with this album. I wonder how many more drawn out "Aaaaaaa"s they could've fitted in here before even they realized they went too far.

Post Listen:
Album got old before the end. One of those ones where the vocalist sort of ruins everything in a most horrific, ear-bleeding fashion. Many such cases.

Pros, this album has a great variety of musical instruments it uses to great affect to create some really interesting sounds. Some are more experimental, but most of the time it works and sounds fun. Then you got the lead vocalist butt in with absolute nonsense lyrics. He's got the flattest voice you've ever heard, and he goes on and on, it starts to feel like having a fly in your ear. I really wanted to give this album at least a 3, it's got clear international influence across many of the songs (mostly Indian), and it gives green-puff Wizard vibes at it's best.

At it's worst though the lead vocalist hurt me. I really hate it when a band as a group can't just tell their shitty vocalist to sit down and shut up. 2/5

Ya, I couldn't stand most of the songs

Boy oh boy, in theory this should be right up my alley. I like folk music, I like call and response songs, I like songs with only a few instruments and I like songs with lots of singers and instruments. This album has all of that. Unfortunately, none of it is done well.
If there's a singular lead singer, which I think there is, he has a tinny, hollow voice with absolutely no depth. When he's joined by the others and the instruments, instead of a Phil Spector style Wall of Sound you get more of a shower curtain of noise. Technically there's something there, and god bless them they are trying, but it's thin, unpleasant and I can pretty much hear right through it.
Some of these songs have the production and entertainment quality of a Ren faire band playing on the fourth stage, the one you accidentally stumble upon because you were looking for a turkey leg. I'm not sure what the target audience for this was back in 1968. I wasn't born yet, but if I had been, there would have been no bullseye on my back as this wasn't for me. 1/5

I don't recognize this artist, and don't recognize any of these tracks by title. So I'm going into this blind.

Okay, let's talk about band names for a moment. This band calls themselves "The Incredible String Band." They're not a string band. And certainly not "incredible," at least not in the figurative sense of them being "amazing." But maybe they mean "incredible" in the more literal sense of them _not_ being a credible string band. If that's the case, then my review of this album is that it's an incredible album. The musicianship and vocal work: incredible. Songwriting: incredible. I'm even willing to infer that the titular Hangman's Daughter's Beauty is also likely incredible.

até que usa vários instrumentos interessantes, mas num dá pra salvar nao. sabia que ia ser ruim, mas conseguiu me surpreender: é péssimo!

Rated 6/10

That was an interesting album, very whimsical. It was going for a sound from another century it seems. It was a pleasant trip.

Rated 8/10

apparently i have a real soft spot for goofy fantastical hippie folk. once again they're talking about riddles and minotaurs and the trees whispering and shit and i'm on my feet cheering. i can't blame all the 1 star raters for doing so but they are wrong

Rated 2/10

Waaaay to folky for me.

Rated 4/10

It feels like a Sgt. Pepper's kind of situation that honestly, is just not my vibe.

Rated 2/10

I made it four songs

Rated 4/10

I can definitely see why it has such a low average rating. It's hard to love, even for someone who can stomach a lot of goofy 60's Psychedelia. I can't bring myself to dislike it all that much. It does a good job at setting an atmosphere. Said atmosphere is a kooky D&D tavern though. Full of weird shit and strange sounding instruments. Interesting inclusion, but not for me.

Rated 8/10

This album is great! I'm really grateful to have encountered it through this list. I definitely understand why it's not for everyone, but I adore the overall weirdness and it sounds like some pretty inventive psychedelic experiments for 1968. I will need to continue relistening because there's just so much going on with this album.

Better than Coldplay

Rated 10/10

This was a struggle. I have been able to appreciate the value in Duck Stab/Buster & Glen, Trout Mask Replica, Opus Dei, and even uncountable hours of 69 Love Songs, but this stretched my commitment.

The first track is bad in the most pointless way. Track 2 honestly had me thinking it was a Monty Python sketch - but honestly it was entertaining. Then track 3 manages to provide something approaching music for the first half, but disintegrates into mush. Track 4 has a recorder and a kazoo competing for most annoying. And why is this track so absurdly long? This is absolute wank.

Somehow whoever was in charge of this plane seems to decide to land it after these 13 minutes in free fall. 5 and 6 absolutely fly by as almost competent compositions (well except track 6 forgetting that it is supposed to be a waltz about halfway through).

In the end it’s either a 1 or a 5 - let’s stick with the spirit of this project and go 5.

Rated 2/10

Quite horrible. Maybe it would be good at a ren faire or some other joking event

Rated 4/10

This album is definitely an experience, though a pretty exhausting one. It’s basically “Ren Faire cottage-core” turned up to eleven, like it was made by people who dropped way too much acid and completely forgot how to stay in tune. Listening to it feels like being trapped in a room with a group of eccentric hippies who just found a pile of kazoos, sitars, and jaw harps. It’s a rambling, discordant mess of medieval sea shanties and hippie-dippie stuff that honestly just gave me a headache.
