MetallicaMetallica

Rated 6/10

Metallica reminds me of smoking resin from a gravity bong. Does it get the job done? Certainly. Do I enjoy it? Not particularly.

I’m not really a Metal guy, but all my friends in school were. All of them who weren’t good people loved Metallica, and all of those who were good people hated them.

Most bands would kill to have a Greatest Hits album as good as this debut album.

I watched the documentary having never heard of Sparks. I was absolutely fascinated by the idea that there was such an influential and prolific band that never gets recognition. I enjoyed the documentary but I never actually took the time to listen to an album until this list.

With every single track I had an almost immediate feeling like, “Oh no, this song is gonna be terrible.” But every single time a song would end I’d think, “Goddamn that song was awesome.” Every time.

I’ve always enjoyed XTCs sound, but I’d never listened to a full album. This was fine.

This band is brand new to me and I’m honestly surprised I enjoyed this album as much as I did. Perhaps a week ago I would’ve hated this and who knows, maybe tomorrow I’ll hate it. As for now though, I enjoyed it quite a bit!

Queen doing what they do best, making music I don’t really care for.

Man, I was really not expecting to like this as much as I did. I knew the singles of course, but the other songs were also mostly good!

This album was excellent. I’ve heard Black Magic Woman a million times, but I’d never heard the instrumental lead-in before and now I want to hear that every time BMW comes on.

I loved Attack and Release when it came out so I was psyched when they announced this album would be releasing on my birthday. My friends and I would listen to this constantly while we aimlessly drove around our quiet town.

Later that year we saw the band live and it was an incredible show. Soon after that it seemed like these songs were inescapable. I got tired of it pretty quickly, and by the time El Camino came out I decided I had grown tired of these guys.

Now that I’m older I’d probably give this album a 3 but listening to it again made me remember being a stupid kid. 5 stars.
