Some pretty unremarkable electronic music. Totally fine, but big standard. Not sure why there are so many albums like this on the list. It just doesn’t seem to be notable or influential or good enough to merit its inclusion.

Rated 6/10

One of those things that will test your tolerance for a couple of lads being clever with their electronic gear by throwing everything at their mixer and seeing what sticks.

Pretty much made for independent films to use over the end credits, car commercials, and gaming.

Nowhere near as good as the Gods of this sort of thing - Autechre, Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada would eat this for breakfast with one arm tied down - but passable.

Rated 6/10

It's an interesting listen. I didn't hate it or love it. I don't really like the singer's voice though.

Rated 2/10

Not my taste…

Rated 4/10

I'm vaguely aware of this artist, but don't recognize any of these tracks by title. So I'm mostly going into this blind.

This is just boring. I'm not sure what other people are seeing in this album. It looks like this gets the genre Shoegaze applied to it, but that doesn't seem right. It's much more electronic than shoegaze.

hm?? uopće nisam očekivao da će mi se ovo toliko dopasti... dosta dobar vajb, na trenutke izvrstan. ugodno iznenađenje, slušat ću svakako još

Rated 8/10

3.75 Great to find them again via this list. Aisha was in heaven rotation back in the day.

Death in Vegas had zero name recognition to me, coming in with no expectations I was absolutely blown away by Dirge. For whatever reason I’m not at all into trip hop but this psychedelic shoegaze variant of it is very much up my street. Together these flavours occupy a space I’ve never quite heard before and make The Cortino Sessions an absolute must listen.

The different vocalists mean you can never quite settle into a groove, it’s great to hear each one work their way around the music, which vacillates between chill club and a fully fledged rock band. By the end you feel like you’ve been taken on a huge sweeping journey, it doesn’t end where it starts!

Rated 6/10

I really liked this. Everything is super heavy and the crescendos really work. The synths are jagged and the guitars sound good. Not a big fan of the songs with vocals as I think they detracted from the great instrumentals. I like how Neptune Street ends the album on a positive note after the rather dark rest. Favorites were Dirge, Death Threat, Lever Street, and Neptune City.

Rated 8/10

I don’t know what genre this is considered. I’m not sure what the heck this is but I freaking love it! The instrumentals especially. Really don’t need the vocals, in fact they take away from the atmosphere. That and the harshness of Broken Little Sister make this not quite five stars for me. But I will be exploring this further. Very cool.

Rated 6/10

I always quite enjoyed this era of Death in Vegas and this is their best album. ‘Dirge’ and ‘Aisha’ are just brilliant tracks.
The rest of the tracks dont get near that standard, but still an enjoyable listen

Rated 8/10

I don't think I ever knew the name of track 1, or who wrote it, despite liking it quite a lot, so that was a surprise when it started. I like how it swells and builds over the length of the song despite being a very simple repetition. It does have a slight 'destined to be on movie soundtracks' air about it though. In fact, that persisted through the whole album - it was very late 90s, early 2000s film soundtrack.

I really liked Soul Auctioneer, thought the beginning of Death Threat was a bit pointless and could have been chopped off to cut down the running time. Flying was similarly too long (although the bassline was annoyingly reminding me of The Fun Lovin Criminals, so my brain kept trying to rap over it). At this point I realised that I was really missing a vocalist. I think I need lyrics and a voice to fully engage with an record, so Iggy Pop appeared at exactly the right time - I enjoyed him telling me about being a murderer, well at least until his post-vibrating muffled mumbling. Lever Street had an upright bass and an organ sound to the keyboards, so I enjoyed that.

For the most part enjoyably menacing, this definitely felt like a night-time album to be listened to with headphones on. I have no desire to ever listen to it as a full album again, and so it can never get top marks as a result, but it surprised me how much I liked it.

Probably a 3.5 in reality, but my foot was a-tappin' throughout so it's getting a:

4/5

Rated 8/10

1) Flying
2) Death Threat
3) Dirge

Least Favourite: Lever Street

Rated 4/10

This would all go great as the score in a Frank Miller film, but as standalone songs, they don't do a lot for me.

Standout tracks: Dirge, Aisha

love it, kind of has a "Heaven or Las Vegas" vibe, but darker

Rated 6/10

Liked the first song but then the album did not hold my attention

Rated 6/10

Normally albums grow on me, but if anything, this one soured a little.
Tracks are over worked and instead of one "Dirge" there ends up being multiples
I'm still not sure after 3 listens where my feelings lay with this. album
But I'm not listening again to find out so it will have to be a 3.
