Dj Premier’s beats and scratching are obviously the standout here and for good reason. The jazzy production style definitely influenced groups like Tribe or Us3. They would go on to make greater albums but this one is definitely important. Favorite songs were Step In The Arena, Who’s Gonna Take The Weight?, Check The Technique, Lovesick, and As I Read My S-A.

Very atmospheric. The bass and the vocals are the standouts here. Favorite songs are Play For Today, and A Forest to the end of the album.

Probably in the upper half of Taylor’s albums, but I’m not sure why this warrants inclusion over Folklore. Solid folk-pop songs with some good storytelling. Not really something I listen to much. Favorite songs were Willow, no body no crime, and Evermore.

I liked this album. Her voice is really great and the instrumentation keeps a smooth style throughout. Especially the bass and the use of saxophone. Nothing super groundbreaking and not as good as something like Sade but still solid 80’s soul/R&B. Favorites were Sweet Love, Same Ole Love, and Watch Your Step.

I like the parts where it sounds like the drummer and his drumset are falling down a set of stairs. This is another one that I heard again and again how groundbreaking and great it is. And yeah, it’s pretty great. He is an absolute wizard on the saxophone.

I liked this. Fun mix of styles, but I’m not sure this is really essential listening. Favorites were Zuton Fever, Pressure Point, Long Time Coming, and Remember Me.

This dude was just on such a heater through the first half of the 70’s it’s absurd. I don’t think this is as good as Innervisions or SITKOL, but that’s like comparing the guy who finished third in the Olympic marathon to the guys who finished first and second. He’s still not blind.

The vocals reminded me of a 90’s Prefab Sprout. Instrumentals sounded very clean. I enjoyed this while it was on, but there were so many songs on here that felt forgettable. Favorite songs were Fall At Your Feet, Weather With You, and Italian Plastic.

This is fun. Not every song here is a winner, I didn’t particularly like Lovers In The Backseat, but the ones that are good definitely went in the playlist. The Comfortably Numb cover is fine, but feels incomplete without the guitar solos that make that song. Favorites were Take Your Mama, Mary, Tits On The Radio, and Filthy/Gorgeous.

No skip album (after you skip The Doctor’s Office). This album deserves its high rating solely for being likely the first to use deez nuts on record. Beyond that, however, is an absolutely west coast classic with some of Dre’s best beats and some great verses by Dre, Snoop, and the rest of Death Row.

I liked this one. It was very warm and smelled like pipe smoke. Lots of slide guitar. Favorites were The Wild Side Of Life and Bright Lights And Blonde Haired Women.

Lana Del Rey’s music has never really been my cup of tea. I could never get into the soft breathy style. Just for her influence on pop music Lana definitely deserves a spot on the list. Without her we would have no Billie Eilish. I’m just not sure this is the album of hers to include. I do, however, really like the song Wild At Heart.

This does really well at combining the cold electronics of Kid A and Amnesiac with the more rock oriented sound of The Bends. Great album cover too. Favorites are 2 + 2 = 5, Go To Sleep, We Suck Young Blood, A Punch Up At A Wedding, Myxomatosis, and A Wolf At The Door.

I enjoyed this one. It is 80’s slop(non-derogatory). The cover of Tainted Love was the only song I knew before listening. Favorites were Tainted Love, Sex Dwarf, and Wave Hello, Say Goodbye.

What’s so funny in One More Dance? This one was ok. Not really my thing, but I’m glad I heard it. Favorites were The Click Song, Mbube, and Iya Guduza.

This is a car CD for sure. You can definitely tell the sound where Bob Mould would eventually take Sugar forming here. It’s just a little too long and doesn’t necessarily stick with me. There are definitely highlights though. Favorite songs were Standing In The Rain, Ice Cold Ice, Actual Condition, and Turn It Around.

The guitar on Next Time Round sounds a lot like Stand by REM. This is enjoyable, but I don’t think it’s quite as good as his first three albums. Favorites were Tokyo Storm Warning, I Want You, and Battered Old Bird.

The only song I knew from this project prior to listening was Get Free and that one is still good. I liked this but it seemed somewhat derivative. Like 1969 kinda just sounds like indie rock Comfortably Numb. And most of this sounds like The Hives. I like it but it’s nothing revolutionary.
