Country/folk. Dude was, for a time, a touring partner of Woody Guthrie's, and also collaborated and toured with the likes of Bob Dylan and The Grateful Dead. Dudes sound is somewhere between Guthrie and John Prine. Pretty solid. East Texas Talking Blues sounds exactly like something Corb Lund would put out. I'd say they were definately influenced by Jack Elliott.
Favourite songs: New York Town, East Texas Talking Blues, Cocaine, Salty Dog, San Francisco Baby Blues, The Boll Weevil, Brother Won't You Join In the Line
Least favourite songs: Ol' Riley, Grey Goose, Black Baby

Obviously not as talented in terms as songwriting like his contemporaries like Bob Dylan, but I liked the intimate vibe of the album.

Why does this album have a billion different alternative album covers? Anyway, the first track presents a lot of hope for something with a lot of promise and definitive influence, but it quickly loses that hope and replaces it with folksy yodeling and, well, rambling. The picking is nice throughout, and you can tell this album could be seen as influential, but it itself leaves a lot to be desired, especially after a strong beginning. It's just generic folk music, nothing more, and maybe even a little less.

He certainly rambles, not for me

Let's find out if I check all the boxes to be a Ramblin' Jack Elliot fan?
Like Country music? No
Like troubadour music? No
Big fan of flatpickers? Not really
How about cowboy hats? Never owned one.... but that doesn't mean I don't like that...
2 stars, to be polite?

Rated 6/10
From a musicological standpoint, I have great respect for the 50s-era folk-revival musicians. From a pure musical-enjoyment perspective, there's a lot of other stuff I'd rather be listening to.

Rated 8/10
I love the spoken word intros to each track. Really gives the album a cohesive, narrative structure. His guitar playing is really emotive and great too. One of the better '50s albums I've heard.
Rated 2/10
Rated 8/10
Right on the boundary between folk and country - influenced by Woody Guthrie and an influence on Bob Dylan. A really short album, at least it is without the bonus tracks, but very fun and a cool record of some very old songs. I loved it!
Rated 6/10
Not a bad album, I didn't find it too engaging though. However, the influence he would have had on acts like Bob Dylan is very clear.
Rated 10/10
A fascinating little slice of history. Weird to think that this album was released closer to when Marco Polo discovered America than today.
Rated 6/10
Maybe it was C's reaction but I expected this to be horrendous, and it was surprisingly good. Not anything I'd choose to listen to regularly, but not unpleasant. Liked New York Time, Muleskinner Blues, disliked Grey Goose.
Rated 6/10
Again, another album that is pleasant enough, but doesn't really seem to warrant inclusion on its own merit. Sure, maybe it did influence a lot of other albums that are included in the list - Dylan et al - but in it's own right..........? Hard to see why personally.
Rated 4/10
This wasn't for me. A little too much Ramblin I guess. I can see how he would go on to influnce artists that I do like, so that's good. But I can never see putting this one on again.

Avausraita vahva ja muutenkin ajan hampaan kestänyttä folkia. 3/5.

Like the background story on Ramblin' Jack. Had never heard of him before. Not my typical music but I did find it enjoyable. I like the folksy sound. 3/5

Important link in the folk tradition. To me this music is like vegetables that are good for you on a crudite plate and not like a cheeseburger or a slice of pizza. This analogy depends heavily on your opinions of vegetables on a crudite plate vs cheeseburgers and pizza but I think the analogy still holds up regardless of differences of opinion.

American roots album. The Boil Weevil is a good tune. New York Town with Woody Guthrie is a great tune.
