Even for a Punk album made during the loudness war, this one is really loud. Didn't know them besides the first single but I liked what they did. Just simple and noisy blend of 2000's alternative and Punk. Very short listen as well, helps the Punk vibe. It's a bit edgeless I guess, but it does what it sets out to do pretty well.

I love the hives … see them live if you can. I love this album too, but it is a compilation and so slightly cheating.
Rated 6/10
Overall, it's a fine album, and some songs are truly good, but they're all a bit samey and it gets stale pretty quickly. It's your run-of-the-mill post-punk album where they confuse screaming with singing, and where distortions don't really serve a purpose outside of sounding rebellious. It's high-energy, but there's no real sense of personality behind the music. I've heard better in that genre.

Love it, it still hits like it did for me in my youth.
Rated 6/10
Not sure I agree with a compilation being on the list, but I do enjoy a bit of the Hives.

Loved this one when it was new, and still do. This is what fun sounds like. See this band live if you ever get a chance, you won’t be disappointed.

Top : Die, All Right!
Flop : The Hives Are Law, You Are Crime

Decent early 2000s rock. Probably a 3.5, but I enjoyed it and I could see myself playing it intentionally if I was I. the mood.
Rated 10/10
Easy 6 stars for me. Maybe 7. Quite possibly the most ridiculously charismatic frontman I've ever had the pleasure to see live aligned to a super tight and drilled musical unit.

The Hives Forever. Forever The Hives!
Rated 8/10
I never expected this album to appear on here, especially since it is mostly a compilation of their first two albums. This actually happens to be the first ever album I bought. I don't have it anymore since I now have Barely Legal and Veni Vdid Vicious, although I still listened to it since there were a couple of non album originals on there. Also the mixing feels slightly rougher, like some of the songs sound more like demo versions. not really a bad thing but I will stick to the proper albums from now on. Still though, the hives are one of my favourite bands.

I love this. Super high energy. Simple and short tracks. Would have been a easy 5, but compilations are not albums, and do not belong on this list.
Rated 2/10
Ugh, they had to include every shitty hipster band from this era, didn’t they. It’s ironic, see, because they’re actually one of my least favorite bands ever.
Rated 6/10
In fact not my new favorite band but I appreciate the suggestion. Fun romp, a little one note on the screamy delivery. Good in short bursts. 3.5
Rated 6/10
They actually aren’t my new favorite band. I often like high energy music but this is the same rat-a-rat with no subtlety for alot of the album. And the lyrics aren’t interesting enough to make up for the lack of musical variety. They don’t sound angry. It’s just speed for speed’s sake. The first song, their single, is fun but if quickly got monotonous after that one.
Rated 8/10
Not quite my new favorite band, The Hives are still a group I'm happy to've learned about, if for nothing else than their spitting simplicity & their not-too-abrasive-but-still-effective-edge. W/ heavier drums than The Strokes, fewer rhythmic innovations than the Arctic Monkeys, & less melody than The Libertines, The Hives are both a part of this milieu but really something separate, primarily b/c they're more punk: 'Untutored Youth,' 'Outsmarted,' 'Mad Man.' 'Stuck in the ways of being an ass / & I got a lot of nerve that I'm ready to pass.' I wouldn't say they're as politically pertinent as the best of the punk scene, but they got something to say & I basically like how they get it across. 'I put up w/ being laughed at / 'Cause I put up w/ being me.'

Er, what is a compilation album doing on here? And a compilation album put together after a grand total of, checks notes... TWO Hives albums had been released. Either of Veni Vidi Vicious or Tyrannosaurus Hives would have made for reasonable enough inclusions. This is taking the piss and wasting a space in the book, as fun as a couple of the songs are.

Favorite track(s): Hate to Say I Told You So
A bit more entertaining than some similar albums on this list, but certainly not new favourite band material.
Rated 4/10
When this music emerged it didn't really catch me as a spin-off of punk. It's catchy and irreverent and the Hives are maybe a bit more interesting than some of their ilk. I didn't mind this album but I don't feel converted to the genre.
