It is a perfect conflation of sex, drugs, and religion, demonstrating the equally strong lure of all three influences on human behavior. The sleazy "reverend" is a smooth-talking charlatan, and his raspy voice over that lush beat would be too much for any down-on-his-luck, purple-tin-dependent bloke to resist. Remember, kids, if you want consciousness expansion, don't lie on the beach smoking dope. Go to your local tabernacle and sing!

Fuck me. I was not expecting the guys who did The Sopranos to have created whatever the fuck this is. It's all over the place, like Primal Scream on crack, and the Sopranos theme song is constantly bubbling under, like a violent threat. It doesn't always work, but when it does it just goes so fucking hard that it's impossible to ignore.

Very 90s

Man, they just let bands sound like anything during the 90s. Genre descriptors all over the place, call it techno country, psychedelic soul, acid-house-folk, the list goes on. Obligatory hey that's the Sopranos theme song, but also the full version of that track is so much weirder in context. Very fun pick!

After a second full listen of the album, I'm afraid to say that I already felt i heard enough of this and it felt more like a gimmick.

Rated 8/10

I didn't know I needed this.

Listening to a mix of country and electronica was not what I was expecting when I woke up. Didn't hate it, but didn't love it, either.

Like blues crossed with country and acid house? Sounds fucked, but it works. Also, these dudes created the theme song for The Sopranos (Woke Up This Morning). Also, props to the band for covering John Prine's classic: Speed of the Sound of Loneliness. They did a good job.

Upon seeing the cover and band name, I feared I would have to suffer through some horrible twangy country rap/pop drivel, but this isnt bad.

Favorite songs: Woke Up This Morning, Converted, Speed of the Sound of Loneliness, Peace in the Valley

Least favorite songs: Mao Tse Tung Said

Possibly the most American sounding British band - even before their big hit TV theme use. Decent and very varied, but still disappoints at points and lacks any tracks that properly grab you.

Such a wild mix of styles. It's like country trip-hop? Crazy. I'm not sure it's something I'd come back to often but I definitely enjoy it.

Rated 8/10

Woke Up This Morning is so iconic. U Don't Dabs 2 Tekno Anymore is so crazy. And boy howdy do I wish that the politics of Mao Tse Tung weren't so gosh darn relevant. What a thoroughly perplexing album.

Rated 6/10

I was sure I had heard of this band before, then the theme tune to sopranos came and it all made sense.
