I don’t think this is quite as good as Superfuzz Bigmuff. I just wish this was a little louder. It doesn’t sound quite as “big” as the other big grunge bands, but I think partially that’s because they came first. Favorite songs were Good Enough, Something So Clean, Who You Drivin’ Now?, Pokin’ Around, and Don’t Fade IV.

Rated 8/10

Solid grunge. Better than most, not as good as some. I can definitely see the influence they had on other bands I like. Some tracks were 3s and others were 5s. Kind of hard to rate

I don’t even know what to say. Sure?

Rated 6/10

I’ve been sleeping on Mudhoney. Definitely going to give this album another listen

Rated 8/10

Didn't get much time to listen, but I like what I heard.

Rated 6/10

They had the smarts to clean up the vocals to offer a counterpoint to the scuzzy guitars, giving the sound a lot more dynamism, creating a bit of breathing room in the mix. They're like an American Jesus and Mary Chain, fusing noise and pop into louder fuzzier heavier version of basically the 60s garage rock template, complete with surf solos. The dirty bass parts rip and the nasal slacker rock singing works perfectly for the dgaf affect.

Rated 6/10

I like how good natured Mudhoney are as a grunge band, they are rather sweet. The production is fantastic, I enjoy how each track has a clash between its super clean and its fuzzy, distorted elements - this is a core part of their sound. The song writing is solid, but it never quite makes the leap from “pretty interesting” to “compelling.” They are definitely the grunge band you’d take home to meet your mother though!

Rated 8/10

Does it sound a little dated? Yes. Does it sound dated from the greatest era in rock history? Also yes.

Rated 10/10

The grungiest of the major grunge bands. Mudhoney don’t get enough credit for the inventiveness of their sonic textures, which are on full display on this record. And some of the guitar solos are wonderfully demented.

Rated 4/10

Apple Music continues to be deliberately mean to these albums. Auto played after this was teen spirit by nirvana. Then gigantic by the pixies.

Rated 4/10

I bought Mudhoney’s Superfuzz Big Muff as a teen. Loved it and listened to it on repeat. For some reason never got round to buying any other Mudhoney albums and I long ditched the flannel and ripped jeans by the time streaming was a thing.

Was excited to listen to this for the first time. But it was pretty dull.

I liked Pokin Around mostly because it sounded like Bob Dylan playing harmonica over a Dinosaur Jr track. Nothing else to come back for and the flannel shirts are staying firmly in the attic.

Rated 8/10

I've been giving out an absurd amount of 4 star ratings recently but sure, whatever, I love music after all, don't I?

Rated 6/10

Solid rather than spectacular, but enjoyable nonetheless the less

Rated 6/10

Another artist where I knew the name but had never knowingly listened to any music.

I was not particularly into the first two tracks, but I liked Good Enough (which I admit is partially because the drums reminded me of, the significantly less cool, Two Princes by The Spin Doctors). I liked Who You Drivin Now? a lot too and, harmonica solo aside, Pokin' Around was enjoyable. I could have done without the snoring on Don't Fade IV.

Mark Arm's voice was occasionally a bit Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum, which I very much approve of, but ultimately for me this was fine, but not particularly stand out.

3/5

Sidenote: one of the facts Amazon Music gave me about Mudhoney made me love them a little:

"Mudhoney was given $20,000 to record the song "Overblown" for the Singles soundtrack. The band recorded the song for a grand total of $164, and pocketed the rest of the loot."

I hope this is the right place to submit an IT ticket?

Anyway, love this whole 1001 album generator thing and everything has been going great until today.

My “album” was something called “every good boy deserves fudge” by a band called Mudhoney. At first, I was suspicious, given the artwork looks like it was done by a middle schooler, but I gave it a listen. As suspected, it appears like these crafty kids have hacked into your system, and uploaded a recording of one of their garage band rehearsals, replacing your real album.

You can tell from the very beginning when you hear them warming up. All of the songs are screamed over instruments that have just been learned, based on the basic notes and melodies that repeat over and over. For a minute, I thought it might be post-punk music, but nope, it’s clearly pre-teens.

But, good news! They may not have been fully successful in their hack, because it looks like one song from the real album, into the drink, is still there. They missed that one but I think they got all the rest.

Please take a look and reset the servers or whatever you have to do. Just send a reply when everything is up and running again.

Hope this info helps. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to tomorrow’s album. Thanks!

Rated 6/10

Not great, not terrible. If I could give this 3.5, I would.

Rated 4/10

Much more "polished" than Superfuzz Bigmuff. Doesn't sound very authentic...

Love this and once again slightly pissed that I didn’t know about until now. I was buying all kinds of albums back in the 90s, especially alternative rock and was all in on the grunge wave. SubPop must have not marketed well where I was. Nonetheless, I’m going to have this in my rotation from here on out.
