Really not a great folk album. Pretty messy and wandering with lifeless paint by the numbers instrumentals, and bad vocals and lyrics. Some moments were OK but not close to deserving of a spot on the list. 1.5/5 - > 2/5

Rated 6/10

It's a bit all over the place, and Skeleton Key crosses the line from Beefheart homage to pastiche. Some of it is not too bad though. A low three.

Hard to understand why this one is on here. Nothing particularly remarkable about it.

The Good: Coral is the indication on how the oceans are doing
The Bad: it seems the oceans are not doing too well, as this coral is bland
The Ugly: that, again, we have a band who’s incapable of coming up with an original album title…

First listen was a “what the fuck is this doing on the list!!!…!!..!..!?????!??!” and then towards the end of the album I found myself starting having fun…
So by the second listen I could understand that there are people who enjoy this… just count me out of being one to herald this as must hear before I die.

If this band would have figured out what style they were going to emulate, maybe the overall experience would have been more enjoyable. However, the now we are this, then we are that, then we sing a little like this, and watch what I can do here that, just doesn’t make one pay too much attention.

However, no knives came close to my wrists, so chalk this up to another experience…

A thing belonging or appropriate to a period other than that in which it exists, especially a thing that is conspicuously old-fashioned.

(I would give this a higher score if it was released in 1968 instead of 2002. Didn't dislike it - in fact, it grew on me - but the fact that it was a complete rip-off of 60s psychedelia was a little much for me).

I am always surprised when I come across a late 90s to early 2000s Indie album from England that I haven't heard of on this list. But each time I a reminded of why that is...that era of music from the UK just doesn't resonate with me at all. So boring!! 2/5

Haven't listened to this one in quite a while, interesting to see how aged it is now. Dreaming of You is still a great song, and there are a few other good ones in the first half. But the quality dips dramatically in the second half. And it gets way too pirate-y!

Great find for me.

This is cool and hits the right spot with me. Spanish Main is a strong opener.

Bref, on commençait à sérieusement s'emmerder.

Wasn’t horrendous but very few songs really stood out to me

Rated 4/10

I'm not down with this at all. A lot of indie from this era was just terrible, floppy haired, happy-go-lucky music with no oomph to it. And of course, this is no exception. Maybe they're a bit more varied than some of their contemporaries in what they're doing musically, but it still has no bite to it at all.

Rated 8/10

Not particularly original, but we'll done. Surprisingly I'd missed this band until now.

Rated 4/10

Yet another newer record that sounds old. I get that the people who compiled this list miss being young and discovering artists, but if it sounds like the 70's it's not automatically the best thing ever.

Rated 6/10

This is the first band on this list I haven't heard of before AND ALSO liked the album. This is exactly what I was hoping this list would be like, and have thus far been quite disappointed.

This was fucking FUN! I really don't think it belongs on a list of albums you must hear before you die, but I don't want to diminish how much I enjoyed this album.

I appreciate the eclectic mix of styles and am reminded of how I felt listening to bands like Panic! at the Disco, Gogol Bordello, Flogging Molly , and My Chemical Romance for the first time. They're all doing something somewhat new with well-founded historical precedent in a way that blends nicely and makes me want to find the music that inspired this.

Delightful album by a bunch of teenagers who take you on a grand tour of music and style history. As many ideas in music as the cover shows it will be.

Rated 6/10

I believe the Coral to be one of the better bands from the 00’s, and pretty underrated, this is a good indie rock album and deserves its place on the list, has its flaws though and not one I really come back to.
