I thought the album was fine. But honestly True Blue is a far better album.
Rated 8/10
doideira. madonna experimental, super eletrônico, indo pra vários subgêneros diferentes.
bem produzido. bem eletrônica europeia downtempo noventista. tudo que nós gosta.
inclusive, envelheceu super bem.

Ray Of Light is a really good album that i wasn't really expecting to sound the way it did. Despite mainly being a pop album, This album was an electronic music lover's dream. It has a lot of the different genres that are well associated with electronic music including techno, trip-hop, ambient, house etc. And i can safely say that every genre that was tried in this album was executed really well. At worst, the songs could just be a little forgettable but most of the songs here were actually pretty catchy and enjoyable to listen to. This is definitely a really solid album.
Best Song: Frozen
Worst Song: Shanti / Ashtangi
Side note: I also noticed that depending on the music video, Madonna could look incredibly different in one compared to the other.

Yeah she has a great voice but that doesn't stop this album from being a dragging slog
Rated 10/10
is this the best album ever made, or am i just gay
Rated 10/10
I've always liked this album. The collaboration with William Orbit really did Madonna good musically. Before, the music was too disco-like for me. Frozen is one of my favorite pieces. Listening to the album, I remembered some songs that I had forgotten. It's nice that these memories are fresh again. 5/5

This was the second time I’ve ever listened to this album. It sounds nice but it’s just so boring
Rated 4/10
Definitely like 80's or even early 90's Madonna better...the Euro pop M kinda sucks. 2/5
Rated 6/10
Really? Greatest 1001 ever. Yes, on the one hand you have an absolute pop legend combining with one of the greatest producers of the era. Ray of Light itself is an absolute STORMER of a track that means this gets a minimum 3 stars. The other single I remember "Frozen" is pretty special too.
But the rest, the rest........................ I just don't see why you would include this when you could have picked, say, Mezzanine by Massive Attach, Elliot Smith's XO or, presumably, any number of other albums from around the world.
3 stars for "pop legend produces career reinvigorating absolute banger"
Rated 6/10
Madonna's last good album? Good in a artistic sense, but it's really William Orbit's Strange Cargo III part 2... Strange Cargo IV?
Regardless, the last time Madonna moved my needle.
Rated 4/10
The title song is okay, I get why it was a hit. But I don't really like this album, I'm not a fan of her vocals over this era of electronic music. It's just not for me.
Rated 4/10
Could have good songs on this one, probably Madonna’s last decent album, do you need to listen to it before you die? I don’t think so.
Rated 8/10
I remember well when this album was released - or rather, how the tracks ‘Frozen’ and ‘Ray of Light’ made quite an impact on young and old alike. The best thing about it was, really, seeing how Madonna reinvented herself and managed, once again, to stand the test of time. That’s why I give it a 4
As for the album itself, the singles mentioned are the best bits; the rest tend to fade into the background amidst the tedium and the sort of music you might hear playing in some dimly lit bar
Rated 6/10
I really don't understand the appeal
Rated 6/10
I feel like this album is here in the sense of Madonna's evolution, but on its own it's just ok., feels like a product of its time. I hear some things I enjoy. I also think it's from the time she worked on the Austin Powers soundtrack, a song I adore.
Highlights: ray of light, frozen
Rated 4/10
She has a good voice, but most of this was really boring. There were some tracks that the vocals just didn't seem to go with the music. I can't see how anyone would say they really liked any of these songs. 2/5
Rated 8/10
Continuing my "damnit, Madonna's not actually bad??" tour - this is a pretty good album. Not a five - far too repetitive, but definitely sounds very good. Favorite tracks: Drowned World/Substitute for Love (very cool chill opener), Swim (caught my attention every time I listened), Sky Fits Heaven, The Power of Good-Bye. Wish the album ended on Little Star, a nice song for her newborn daughter, because the lyrics on Mer Girl definitely bring things down ("And I smelled her burning flesh / her rotting bones / her decay" ...eww).
Rated 2/10
Madonna’s vocals are the least interesting part of this album. The electronics are fun, but nothing groundbreaking that I haven’t heard before. Way too long for what it is.
Rated 6/10
Balaeric dance mashed up with mega-pop, it's somehow simultaneously uptempo, upbeat, anthemic and chill in a trancey way. Liked it a lot more than I expected from only knowing the song Ray of Light previously but it suffers from CD-era bloat. Nothing on here is as aurally infectious as her 80s classics. Basically a solid 90s techno-pop album with some star power.
Rated 2/10
It may be a genre-defining departure for Madonna, or some production masterpiece that shook the musical world into the 2000s, but that does not excuse the fact that this album is so BORING. We're not talking not my cup of tea boring, but that kind of shit that grew out of favor for a reason as the years went on. None of the beats here stick in your mind as none of them are catchy, the slick nature seems like a total relapse of everything pop music had learned earlier in the decade with the rise of grunge, and I just straight up don't care as I'm listening to the point of anger. And at over an hour long despite the slim thirteen track length, why would I bother?
That's not to mention the fact that Madonna does nothing here. Her voice is inoffensive but not notable, and I cannot imagine she's the one who made all of these "futuristic" backing tracks, leading me to believe the only praise this album tends to get from music critics is those who already love William Orbit's style and want to praise this boring "choose your car!" sounding shit. Feels like a crime this can be considered trip hop because putting this and acts like Björk and Portishead in the same sentence seems like blasphemy. Bleh.
