This album deserves some context. There was nothing like it on the radio when it released. Here's the Billboard hot 100 from that time:
1. Michael Bolton - How am I Supposed
2. Paula Abdul - Opposites Attract
3. Rod Stewart - Downtown Train
4. Seduction - Two to Make it Right
5. Aerosmith - Janie's Got a Gun
It was a welcome change.

Pre listening: A few weeks ago I saw a car with license plate that was something like “BLK CRWS” and other decals related to this band and I thought, I have never in my life considered for even a moment the idea that the Black Crowes could be someone’s favorite band. Welp, time to find out what the fuss is about and whether they’re just a one-hit wonder.
Listening: this is more fun than I expected. Never going to be my favorite band, but I could see why someone would like them. And, bonus, now I know what he’s saying in the chorus of Hard to Handle. And I know that song is called Hard to Handle! Learned so much today.

Had never listened to this whole album and I liked it enough. It's good music you'd hear playing at a bar, and that's not a bad thing in my book.

Fuck yes! This album is phenomenal! Hard to Handle, Jealous Again, She Talks to Angels, Twice As Hard.... Fuckin love me some Black Crowes! The even crazier thing is that this was a debut album. It hits hard for a first album!! That kinda cohesion on a first album is super rare! Every fucking song is gold. Even the lesser known songs are certifiable bangers. Blues rock at its finest right here! This has to be one of the best debut albums I've ever listened to. Easily top 10!
Favourite songs: She Talks To Angels, Hard To Handle, Twice As Hard, Jealous Again, Struttin' Blues, Thick N' Thin, Stare It Cold, Sister Luck, Could I've Been So Blind, Seeing Things
Least favourite songs: none

Unexpectedly bad. Like a terrible cover band at a bad bar.

Great when it has that Stonesy swagger

Pretty sure I've heard some of these playing at various Kohls stores

I do like their cover of Hard to Handle. The rest is middle of the road blues hard rock. 2.5
Rated 10/10
Excellent, filling the spaces between skynyrd and zz top, with hints of g'n'r and kings of leon in the mix.
I knew one song before, obviously, but loved many of the others.
I'm not sure how much of their later work holds up, but for a debut, this is close to flawless.

Pianorock pauhaa poppistyyllin. Menevää, mut ei myöskään paljoa sen enempää. 3/5.
Rated 2/10
Bit too generic "rock" for me but it's not offensive or anything. Just very vanilla. I bet they would put on a good show though.
Rated 6/10
I imagined blasting this album while cruising along the highway in my pickup on the west coast, but I can not imagine listening to this album in any other way haha
Rated 8/10
This album is right up my street surprised iv never come across it before, good old fashioned blues rock n roll from the 90’s. Added to my rotation.
Rated 4/10
Some good songs on here, but ultimately they sound kinda like a cover band to me. I've heard waaay too many bar band covers of "Hard to Handle" to get any enjoyment out of it anymore, "She Talks to Angels" was a standout track though.

It's a nice heavy late-nite blues rock album that came out in the time when grunge was getting absolutely huge. Lenny Kravitz already showed a year earlier there was still a market for 70's rock.
So here The Black Crowes came with an album that really was nothing new, a combination of The Stones, The Faces and Rod Stewart.
But it rocked. And still does.
Rated 6/10
It took me a while to place it, but the things I like about this album are very similar to what I liked about 'A Nod Is as Good as a Wink... to a Blind Horse' by Faces, which is also on this list.
Every track is exuberant, and each part is played to perfection with a casual blue-rock affect. Chris Robinson in particular sounds like he's put everything he has into every single track, and that energy is infectious.
Rated 6/10
Competent Rolling Stones worship. Not really adding a whole lot to the conversation.
Rated 4/10
Listening to these guys is 2022, they sound dated as hell. Like a last gasp of that southern rock sound. Hard To Handle is a hit but belongs back in the stone age. My issue is that this band's sound is so derivitive that its goes beyond homage. She Talks To Angels is the same spirit that this album needed more of. Alas, its more of the same after.
