Not a big metal fan, but i had fun with this too. I can kinda hear some nirvana influence, and a little bit of goth rock too
Rated 6/10
I love the core ingredients of this record - how primal, furious and repetitive the band are, and the screamy vocals. I am less enamored by the singing vocals and also wish it developed a bit more as I worked my way through the track list. Still - a cool sound.

Ok first thought - how can such a heavy album sound so thin and shallow? It's like they finished recording and then just dialed the bass and low mids back a little bit. Weird choice. Like even the bass drum has no depth to it. I've heard Pantera before of course, and while they've always landed in the 'fine but nothing special and I don't get the cult following' camp for me, I've never noticed that this record sounds this way. But you sort of get used to it after a couple songs.
Walk is great, I've always liked that song. There are a lot of things to like about this album and a lot of things not to like. I don't really like the rhythm guitars but the solos are generally great, tone and playing. I've never been sold on this kind of vocals, they are definitely the weak link on this album and make it worse, verging on ruining. The drums are played well but mostly sound like shit. Bass is buried under a mountain of distortion and hard to pick out. Some of the grooves are fantastic but get repetitive. 3.25/5

I shamelessly love '90s groove-metal. Pantera are the kings and Vulgar Display is the pinnacle. It's defiantly a case of having to separate the art from the artist here though, because these good 'ol boys from Texas wrote some really mean riffs here.

Love the art hate the artist time . Great rhythmic thrash metal . Bit shouty in the vocal delivery but it fits , mostly .
So the number of bands increases where the music is great but the singer turned out to be a knowbhead - fist came morrissey then Kanye , Mustaine , and now Ansalemo not necessarily in that order .

Favorite track(s): A New Level, This Love
I think my lack of a female partner who I desire to make the victim of physical violence hinders my potential enjoyment of this album.

It was okay. A few decent moments but truly could not tell what makes it great.
Rated 4/10
Not for me. I enjoy some metal and find some incredibly dull. What makes this a 2 rather than a 1 for me is that I can catch glimpses of where it influenced later bands I like. But it felt like every time I encountered a moment I liked it was quickly overwhelmed by an obnoxious vocal or a repetitive riff or incoherent lyrics. It’s sort of the opposite experience of listening to Metallica… they have their annoying moments but they seem small in comparison to their overall spirit. I just didn’t hear that kind of soul in this music, tho some I guess a few moments showed me why people might.

Even trying to objective for a white supremacist, there's nothing in here I super enjoyed but there were a few songs that made me bob my head.

Schräges Punk Rock & Metall Album ohne gute Tracks.

Enjoyed a few of these songs! Some were kind of boring but saved by the guitar
I'll round up

It's not my favourite Pantera album, but I like it a lot. It's their most popular release to date, it's groovy and a very good listen. Also, Walk will forever be like an anthem.
Rated 4/10
I tried to let go of everything I know about the members of Pantera and approach this album with an open mind, I really did. There's a lot of enjoyable metal music out there, you know? Maybe this has potential!
Nah. It's off-putting and unpleasant. "Vulgar" is an incredibly apt description. I appreciate its place in the evolution of the metal genre, but I'm never going to listen to Pantera again if I can help it.

Didn’t like Pantera in the early nineties and I still don’t like them
Rated 6/10
Solid thrash metal album! I kind of wanted a little more bass, but it still was good. Too bad dime bag Darrel was such a piece of shit.

Wow, I was done with that quickly. I listened to two tracks, then I'd had enough. Wild, melody-free roaring. In my narrow-minded little world, I thought music had something to do with melody. On the other hand, neither the term melody nor music is precisely defined. So what do I know? At least I know that I don't want to waste my time with this noise. 1/5

I've never been a huge fan of Pantera, but I did own "Far beyond driven" growing up, and honestly the difference between that and "Vulgar display of power" is so big that I find it hard to imagine what happened in the less than two years that passed between them.
Vulgar Display of Power is a solid album, but I really prefer the tighter more coordinated grooves of later releases.
