First album I tapped out and didn't finish. I don't think it's aged very well.

Rated 8/10

I was at the first show they did as a trio as part of a festival in 2000. I didn’t know who they were at the time, but I remember talking to a friend after their set and saying I thought the woman in the middle was a standout and seemed like she could have a pretty good career in front of her. Seems like I underestimated her a bit.

Can't stand this shit. Just not for me....I wish I had my 71 mins back. 1/5

Rated 6/10

Somewhat judgemental about the Nasty girl, which sends a mixed message on the heels of Bootylicious. Interesting attempt at infiltrating a pop/dance/r&b record with some intellect, and it has some touching moments. Probably aimed at a different demographic, but kind of enjoyed it, even though I'm a proponent of DAD ROCK. Makes sense, their producer is Beyoncè's dad.

Very easy to overlook how mind-blowing Destiny's Child were at the time, especially those first three tracks, which married TLC-style harmonies and melodies with a streak of hip-hop aggression.
But, holy crap, the rest is patchy as hell; lots of Beyonce demonstrating her (admittedly very impressive) vocal range to tracks that sound like they were recorded on a child's keyboard.

Rated 6/10

Lush and expensive sounding, with lyrics which are more interesting than I would have guessed from the singles. Thanking Jésus (& his dad) seems a bit unnecessary, as I don't think either actually had much to do with the success. But all three can clearly sing excellently, and one of them went on to be (arguably) the biggest star on the planet for a while, so hard to be too curmudgeonly!

Not one I'll come back to, but probably a worthy inclusion on a list which can be pretty light on massive selling pop artists.

When I was in high school, I was really into the classic rock bands, like Led Zeppelin and The Who. I was convinced that I had superior taste because of it. One of my best friends was very into Destiny’s Child, and I used to poke fun at him for the commercial, girly drivel he was listening to.

I feel so embarrassed for my younger self. It was a reflection of internalized sexism, a belief that this music was inherently unserious, simply because it wasn’t made for straight, white men.

Thankfully, I outgrew that mindset. So many people on this site clearly haven’t, and I think that’s a shame.

This is a good album. It’s not the sort of thing that I am apt to listen to, and that’s okay. Sometimes music just might not be FOR you. That doesn’t make it trash.

I recognise all the hits, but I'm not into them. It is hilarious how you have a bunch of female empowering songs, followed immediately by a song slut shaming someone and telling them to put more clothes on. Hmm.

It's a 'meh' for me overall, with one or two tracks that elevate it a bit. I can't relate to most of it and it doesn't really move or inspire me in any way. 'Happy Face' is probably the best and most interesting track for me, and that is by far the least listened to song on the album according to Spotify, go figure. I guess I'm really not the target demographic!

2.5 rounded down.

This is really not my genre. I just don't like it, at all. I thought, maybe, this one would be the album that changed my mind a little bit. It starts off strong, the first 3 or 4 songs are all really good.

Then it goes on for another hour of just repeating the same things over and over. And several songs talking about how much they love each other, which gets real annoying, real fast.

I can't see ever playing this one again, even if the first few songs were okay.

"Is my vibe too vibealacious for you, babe"

Fuck this album, even the popular songs (all three were back to back at the very beginning) weren't very good. Afterwards, I felt like I was being tortured during a Crimean underground waterboarding. I would've given them the nuclear launch codes. The album was 1hr and 10min, which is 20 minutes longer than the average album, which was just fantastic. Not only was the music headache-inducing, it was also contradictory, with the girls bragging about being so "Bootylicious" and then going on to bash other women for being sluts in the very next song- "Nasty girl." this shit sucks. T6 - Apple pie a la mode is going on the playlist solely because it's the shortest song on the album.

Jesus I had no idea about Destiny's Child, and this was a revelation. I feel like a lot of the time I find myself getting ready to be sorta bored by R&B when it comes up, but this was refreshingly energetic

Rated 4/10

It was a solid 3* pop album, with good uptempo songs and some lesser ballads.

That's until the Gospel Medley and the outtro. That's when it crumbled down.

Rated 4/10

I was surprised by how much I liked Beyonce's album on the 1001 albums, so I tried to give this album a fair listen, even though I'm generally not an R&B fan. This album is ok, just not my style. Independent Women Pt 1 and Survivor were catchy and Fancy and Happy Face were ok. The rest I could take or leave. I will say I definitely didn't like Bootylicious, even though it's a hit off the album. Using the guitar riff from Edge of Seventeen (Just Like the White Winged Dove) should have been good, but it was annoying that they never changed from the one note! Bottom line re: this album: Not terrible, just not my thing.

Rated 6/10

Today's album is an R&B/pop album by a powerhouse group of women, Destiny's Child. This is where Beyonce got her start. All three of these women are experts of their craft, and the harmonies that they can create are things of beauty.

This is Destiny's Child's third studio album, and it suffers from being front loaded for sure. The first three songs are absolute bangers, but after the halfway mark on the album, it kind of settles down into a boring run of the mill R&B record. All the "in your face, unapologetic girl power" attitude is lost, and the slow ballads begin.

Overall, not a bad album, but also not a stellar performance. If the pace that was set at the beginning of this album had been maintained, this would easily have been a 4 or 5 star record.

Favourite songs: Survivor, Independent Women (Part 1), Bootylicious, Sexy Daddy, Nasty Girl, Happy Face

Least favourite songs: Apple Pie a la Mode, Independent Women (Part 2)

As far as I know, abortion was legal in 2001. This album therefore didn't have to exist.

Rated 4/10

Pop slog.

Rated 4/10

First 3 songs are bangers, rest of the album very average.
