Interesting album, I liked the weird violin.

Rated 6/10

Høres ganske tøft ut til tider med felepunk, andre ganger høres de bare ut som et dritings The Clash i øvingslokalet

Rated 8/10

Truly peculiar at time but I think if I give this a couple of extra listens I’ll really like this

There were several songs that I really vibed with off of the first listen

This one really didn’t do it for me. Don’t like the vocals. I usually appreciate bands that use the accordion, but this whole cacophony/whining background doesn’t do it for me. It picks up towards the end when they stop the spoken word stuff so I will round up, but personally it’s
1.5 stars from me.

Rated 4/10

Just such a nothing album. Not bad, not good, not interesting, not fun.

Rated 6/10

It was alright I guess. I barely remember it. But it was fine while I was listening.

Rated 4/10

The two best parts of this list. UK aaand Country together. What can go wrong?

Before starting this project, I had often declared that I didn’t like 80s music. One of the things I’ve learned after 880 albums (ironic) is that the 80s actually had some absolute bangers!

This is not one of them. This album is straight ass. Shit like this is the exact nonsense that leads me to say that I don’t like 80s music.

Rated 6/10

enjoyed it but maybe one you had to be there for

Rated 8/10

Fun album, it's like a blend of the Pogues and Sonic Youth. It brings a pretty unique sound with it. Some good songs on here, normal songs with some weirder sounds and feedback loops combined in here. There's a hint of Country music in there too. Unique blend of styles for sure, kind of hard to define itself.

Rated 8/10

I didn’t really know what to expect with this album but it was a good time

Rated 6/10

Ooooh. Interesting. A bit like The Pogues. Seems a weird amount of hate here in the reviews - I enjoyed it (whilst conceding that maybe I didn't *need* to hear it)

Rated 6/10

I found it mostly enjoyable enough, but I'm not totally convinced yet. I most certainly would have included *Tales of the New West* by The Beat Farmers over this album in terms of showcasing 80's cowpunk.

Yeah, this isn't good.
If The Smiths decided they want to try their hand at country. With a worse singer than Morrissey (Somehow, but at least sometimes Morrissey can be a halfway decent singer). And the music in general is not good enough to make up for that either.

I'll give them some credit for being one of the first bands to make alternative country and being influential in that regard, and that's spawned some good stuff (REM and Radiohead delved a little bit into that sound, and then you got other great stuff like the Silver Jews), but this album is just not good.

I have very few 1* albums so far out of 415 (Only 6). I don't think this is quite bad enough to be introduced to that list, but holy shit is this damn close. If the music was just a tad worse, it'd easily make that list. As it stands, the music is just good and competent enough of the time (Last Dance is actually a pretty decent song overall, singing is fine in that one) to avoid that.

In ieder geval boeiend.

Rated 4/10

This was really not good at all. That’s kind of all I have to say about this.

Rated 8/10

Fear and Whiskey is a genuinely fun record and an easy, rewarding listen. I love the way spoken-word passages sit over scrappy punk rhythms and that wonderfully wild violin—it gives the album a character all of its own. The subject matter is quirky and unexpected, but the storytelling is sharp and engaging throughout, carried by music that never feels lazy or predictable. This is the kind of album you finish and immediately think, yeah, I’ll happily come back to that.

Favourite tracks: Psycho Cupid really stands out its odd, inventive and brilliantly, with spoken words that pull you straight into its world. Filcraft and Chivalry are also highlights, especially for that brilliant violin-driven punk sound.
Least favourite tracks: None. Every track earns its place.
Album artwork: Love the cover it perfectly suits the album’s off-kilter spirit.

A drunk English band pretending to be Irish with a Scottish musical touch... I don't know, some reviews compare them to The Pogues and others, but in no universe or dimension would that be true! Anyway, I enjoyed listening to a few tracks, so it wasn't a total waste of time. I give it a 3 because, in my opinion, there are much worse things on this list

Mekons have 921 fans on Deezer as I write this review. That places them firmly into niche territory, so let's have a listen to find out why this album has been deemed essential.

Ah, founding a new genre by melding two existing ones, I see.

Yeah this is weird. It rules, added to my digital library. Another of the delightful discoveries this generator brings us!
