Gross. I get it. Critically Acclaimed® (lol), but I don't want this in my life. Trolling. Seek professional help, this is not serious art.

Rated 4/10

I loved this in 1999 when I was 20, I'm horrified by this in 2024 when I'm 45. I can appreciate the craft and all that, but this was a 3 to 4 star album at best back then, it's not that any more 25 years later.

Rated 1/10

an era when being impressed by The Joker didn’t get a person viciously made fun of

Rated 6/10

The beats are inventive and lots of fun. Eminem's delivery is totally distinctive with his unique cadence, internal rhyme schemes, clever word play, and poly-vocal bits. It's a nasty artifact of late 90s shithead suburban white guy culture from the Kidrock and South Park era. He's rapping in character doing misogynist fantasy, but it's not like he has anything interesting to say about that other than repeating and performing it apart from the knowing patheticness of the character. But instead of really developing that he just inserts skits that voice the stupidest possible strawman moral majority critique of his work which he then gets defensive about. But damn he such an annoyigly good rapper and Dr Dre really killed the production on this one.

What's his name?

I've already listened to one desperate plea for attention from this prick for 1001 (The Marshall Mathers LP), and I tried to give this one a fair chance to see if it was any different, but by the time I got to "'97 Bonnie and Clyde," I had to pull the plug. No point in putting myself through another one of these adolescent shock fests. There's an abundance of amazing music from Michigan, so why is it that their white rappers are so atrocious? It's like Kid Rock, Eminem, and ICP are locked into some kind of never ending class clown contest.

Rated 6/10

Have to admire the craft, however this really does not age well.

Rated 8/10

Definitely some nostalgia involved but the first few Eminem albums just hit so hard. From a technical perspective, he's one of the best rappers in the game in my opinion. I also really appreciate how he helped normalize white rappers. Some parts of this are definitely 90s edgy and have aged really poorly but I can still appreciate it as a product of its time.

This album is a shot of nostalgia this morning, transporting me back to middle school, watching the music video for My Name Is on Much Music. I remember the first time I heard the uncensored version of the song, I felt like such a badass.

I still have a soft spot for Eminem. I'm not much of a hip hop/rap fan, but he is one hell of a rapper, and I tend to gravitate towards him as opposed to these new rap stars who need to start their names with Lil' for some reason (Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty...wtf). Eminem has more substance than any of those "artists". Eminem's lyrics are vulger, and they are meant to be that way. It kind of shocks you into listening to his music. His topics of conversation (especially on this record) center around mysogeny, murder, rape, shitty childhoods, and drug abuse. A lot of people get mad at his themes or lyrics, but they are ironically doing exactly what he wants them to do, giving him crazy amounts of free publicity.

The simple fact that Eminem is still making good music should go a long way to proving his worth on the scene. I unapologetically enjoy his beats/samples/rap style. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed today's listen. The songs that featured Dr Dre and Royce Da 5'9" were a nice addition to the record. The one criticism I have, which I've had with every rap/hip hop record so far is why the fuck do they always feel the need to break the flow of the record with pointless skits? The record would have been stronger without them I think.

Favourite songs: My Name Is, Bad Meets Evil, Guilty Conscience, Role Model, I'm Shady, Brain Damage, If I Had, Rock Bottom, As The World Turns

Least favourite songs: Cum on Everybody, and all the dumb fuckin skits (Public Service Announcement, Paul, Bitch, Lounge, Ken Kaniff, and Soap)

Rated 6/10

One of the good eminem albums

Rated 6/10

Maybe hasn't aged as well as some of the 1001, but no denying this guy knows rhythm and rhyme.

Rated 4/10

Not a giant Eminem fan...the production on this album sounds a little too gimmicky in my opinion. Maybe just a terrible era for Rap honestly. 2/5

Rated 4/10

I have memories of listening to this album at a friends house as a middle schooler. Back then we listened to for the naughty words. Now it's hard to get past the misogyny and hate. It's obvious it's having its intended effect. It's meant to be repulsive. But I don't like it. I feel like my mom. That was not fun.

Rated 8/10

Persona on persona, Marshall Mathers as Eminem as Slim Shady. The artist, the mask and the cartoon. Much more satirical than I recall it was at the time.

Rated 6/10

When I was a kid I printed out the lyrics to 'Guilty Conscience' and learnt it with a mate of mine, taking a part each. My parents found the lyric sheet and freaked out, which I thought was a bit over the top, but looking back now I'm not fucking surprised! I think the main thing I find re-visiting this album now as an adult is just how immature the whole thing is. And needlessly 'edgy'.

That said there are some good tunes in here. The production is really good, and all the samples and sound effects work well. And yes, I did rap along to Guilty Conscience with full gusto when it came on, regardless.

Rated 10/10

Classic, I loved it when I was 17, and I love it still. Funny, dark, conscious, and silly (at different points!)

Rated 8/10

Em's ultraviolent LP is a full exploration of the Slim Shady character is twisted, disturbing, and full of hot button celebrity culture chicanery. The songs themselves are tight and the samples come together to have incredible sonic textures; see Just Don't Give A Fuck. I can't tell if I was angry when I started listening to this album or if listening to this album made me angry.

Rated 2/10

I didn't think I disliked Eminem as much as I apparently do (or at least dislike this album.) I've heard some of his singles, I saw 8 Mile and liked it, and remember when he and Elton John played the Grammys, which I thought was fairly powerful. So I was expecting a hip-hop/rap album that, while I admit isn't my favorite genre, would be a fun listen and at least tolerable.

But wow, I couldn't have been more wrong. The album starts off strong, with My Name Is, a crossover hit that you couldn't escape and still can't. But then, from there, it devolves into an album that's

A. Way to long
B. Way to repetitive
C. Way to violent for no reason

I'm not sure who finds listening to this enjoyable. At least in, say, a horror movie, you aren't rooting for the killer. Maybe it was a product of the late 90s, but the violence, hatred, and misogyny is just too much to get over for me. It was honeslty hard to listen to the whole thing. Not a fan.

Dude, that kid is going to fall into the ocean while you're standing there looking cool!
