Groovier than I'll ever be that's for sure.

I am ashamed to admit that I have never been able to get into Frank Zappa. I also have never listened to a Frank Zappa album front to back. I was surprised by Hot Rats. I do like jazz and that's what Hot Rats is more than anything. But it's weird jazz because I know how weird Frank Zappa was. But it isn't bad jazz. I'm not sure if it's a right of passage or something that all dads must like Frank Zappa as soon as they become dads. Or maybe Frank Zappa tapped into the insanity that is being a father. I don't know what hot rats are but I liked them.

Though I was able to enjoy some of this album, I still don't understand why there are so many people who see Zappa as God...

Having said that, I did appreciate the music.

Rated 2/10

Yesssss hell yea! really really loved it. Surprisingly accessible compared to the Mothers of Invention album that came up earlier

Seems like this is what happens when you do a ton of drugs and suddenly think you know how jazz works.

Rated 8/10

started amazing and then 'the drugs kicked in' as someone else said lmao

out of tune cellos arent cool come on why..?

it falls off but still giving it a 4

Rated 6/10

Psychedelic jazz, man. The in sound from way, way out

I was not expecting to like this. I’ve never given Zappa a fair shake. I thought it would just be bizarre experimental noodling. I don’t know where I got that idea but it was ingrained in me at some point. This album was wild! Peaches en regalia while not being as crazy as the other tracks was an amazing kickoff. After that it was nonstop in your face energy. It was by and large an instrumental album and man can this band jam!

Rated 8/10

Loved the first track, “Peaches in Regalia!” I struggled to connect to “We’re Only In It For The Money” with the Mothers of Invention, so I was a bit wary of this record before hitting play. But that first track put me at ease—it was inventive, exciting, and rocking.

Zappa really shows off his guitar skills on this album, which is exciting to hear!

I'd listened to this for the first time about a year ago. I'd totally forgot most of it. Re-listening, yup, it's batshit crazy and I dig it!

Rated 5/10

I would have given Hot Rats a 2.5 but since this site forces me to round up so I'm giving it a 3. This was definitely the most experimental of all the albums I have reviewed up to this point, Some paid off, some did not. The music was cool but i felt that some of the songs went on for too long. I did like the vocals though, too bad they were only used in one of these songs.
Best Song: Willie The Pimp
Worst Song: The Gumbo Variations

Rated 6/10

Definitely an interesting one. I could do with less squawking sax throughout the album, but there were some good elements. 3/5

Rated 6/10

Very odd, slightly silly, but massively enjoyable. An artist I didn't really rate before, and still don't quite get, but I'd be intrigued to hear more of his stuff.

Rated 10/10

Some sublime moments between some baffling ones. I liked it a ton

Rated 8/10

Zappa is one of the GOATs. This album is much more palatable than a lot of his stuff which is nice for when you just want to vibe, compared to his headier material. I'm also always into albums that push recording technology and techniques forward, like this one did with its use of 16 track recording.

Rated 6/10

Har lite svårt att ta till mig sådana här instrumentala album.
Pluspoäng för låtnamnen dock.

Rated 8/10

Wow a Zappa album I can get behind. The Gumb Variations gets a little played out towards the end but sure.

Rated 10/10

Love this album, another relatively recent find for me. I've been aware of Frank Zappa for a long time, but mainly only knew him for Bobby Brown and thought he was a bit of a novelty act. However, just before Halloween of last year, while driving out to a haunted house type experience, my partner randomly put this on in the car, because we had both heard it was a great album. It was suitably horrific for the night that was in it, and has been on fairly regular rotation for me ever since. Peaches En Regalia is a great opening, then Willie the Pimp follows it up in a fairly unsettling, but enjoyable, way. One of the best album covers I've seen in relation to the music also; what appears to me to be a clown who's taken too many drugs, attempting to hide in an empty swimming pool. Not sure how accurate that is, it's just what I see. Fits the music perfectly.
