i had low expectations due to only knowing love shack but this was actually a very good album

Rated 8/10

Better than Coldplay

Rated 8/10

If John Waters made G rated music, this is what it would be.

Also never realized how long Rock Lobster is. That should be like 2 minutes tops

Rated 8/10

Were they from the beach, or outer space? Maybe both???
Whatever, this is a timeless collection of punky New Wave anthems, centred on the amazing nearly 7 minutes of madness that make up Rock Lobster. Honourable mentions to Planet Claire, Lava, and a rambling take on ‘Downtown’.
All up, fantastic fun and highly recommended.

I knew Rock Lobster going in. The rest of the album was just as fun.

Rated 8/10

Not bad. Now I understand rock lobster references in Family Guy :)

Rated 10/10

Really fun album that doesn't waste time.

4.5/5.0: Excellent

Rated 8/10

assumed id hate this but its actually pretty enjoyable

Rated 6/10

Divertido. Me ha gustado mucho como empieza. Algo escuché de ellos en los últimos 80 y pensé que eran más recientes. Saber que este disco del 78 seguía haciendo ruido años después de su publicación sorprende.

Rated 6/10

An alright album! Enjoyed a few songs (rock lobster) but some were a bit too weird for me. Went on a bit long too so started getting repetitive

I thought I would like this but it really wasn’t for me. In fairness I have never liked Rock Lobster. When I was around six we had to do a dance in a school play to this and I absolutely hated the song. My feelings have not changed and I have since associated the song with that.

I'm a big new wave fan, but the B-52's have never really done it for me. I never really liked the "hits" and Fred's voice is a huge turn off. First time listening to a full album though, and that turned out to be a more positive experience. There are some really great things going on throughout this album, in between what sometimes feels like forced and quirky moments of sonic retro-kitsch. Hero Worship is a great example of what they're capable of without needing to do that, and I thought it was the standout track here.

Rated 8/10

Has a campy surfer rock vibe to it. It's wacky and zany in a 60s space-age kinda way. I don't know what Wikipedia means when it says "kitschy", but I love how they updated retro sounds with modern arrangements. Also, the guitar work here is fantastic, really pairs well with the overall vibe they were going for (3.5-4).

Rated 10/10

One of the most fun and interesting listening experiences I’ve had since the start of this project. This is just on the cusp between a 4 and a 5 for me. I loved how wonderfully weird this is. Truly an innovative and novel album, will definitely be in my regular rotation going forward.

Rated 8/10

Music for when I have that kinky adult party I've been pretending to want all these years

Rated 6/10

The only song I knew of theirs prior to today was Love Shack which I absolutely loathe, it used to play 3-4 times a day at my old job, so I was dreading this one but it was decent enough overall.

While there were a few tracks I wasn’t massively fussed about there wasn’t anything that I flat out hated. It will probably benefit from another listen or two later on.

Top Track - Rock Lobster

Rated 6/10

It was fun, though not amazing.

Rated 6/10

It was a fun listen. I didn't know they did Rock Lobster so it was a fun discovery.

Rated 6/10

Nails the late 70's/early 80's post punk sound (a la Devo). A highly enjoyable romp. Favorite track: Rock Lobster

Rated 6/10

The album cover is compelling. I feel I have worn at least 3 of those outfits. Planets, Moon,...is this space rock? (Space art pop?) Like Cat Stevens, these vocals are kinda funny, but I think that's intentional (I assume that's what they mean by "kitsch"). Weirdly, I think the bass is my favorite part. There's a lot of listing in these lyrics -- listing girl's names, listing animals, listing planets. Some annoying noises at points though.

Highlights: pronouncing "Mavis" as [mɑvɪs], the song title 'There's a Moon in the Sky (Called the Moon)' (and honestly therefore the song, because that's just an insane lyric (in a good way), and they do say it in the song)

Lowlight: 'Downtown' (don't do Petula like that >:()
