Cheap trick is a new one for me but I do love a live album, so I was looking forward to giving this one a go.
this felt like boring and generic rock. Nothing grabbed me at all. Uninspiring music. The crowd seemed flat. I have no idea how this album made the list as there is nothing new, different, or engaging about it.
Favourite song: I want you to want me was quite pleasant
Least favourite: Need your love (it was just long and very boring)
Album artwork: Cool cover

I never knew where the “this next one is the first song off our new album” sample that begins the Beastie Boys’ “Check Your Head” album comes from. Now I know.
I had to read the Wikipedia article because I was confused why a band this big would go to Japan and play just 41 minutes. There I learned that at the time of this recording, they were *only* big in Japan and this album kickstarted their fame in the US. That makes a little(?) more sense? They’d only put out two albums, they hadn’t quite hit yet, I can support this now.

I thought Cheap Trick to be a very meh band and this did little to change my mind. Felt like they started playing Surrender three separate times. The live version of I Want You To Want Me is better than the studio version though.

To be fair, I do really like Surrender, but not enough to save the rest of the album
Rated 6/10
Some good ole fashioned rockin'! Not bad at all, they probably could have gotten away with calling themselves Moderately Priced Trick.
Rated 8/10
Surprised to read the negative reviews! I love these songs—fun, high energy power pop. “I Want You To Want Me,” “Ain’t That A Shame,” and “Surrender” are all classics, and the enthusiasm of the crowd is incredible. The quality of the recording is lacking, but it makes up for it in the energy of the crowd.

Les tengo manía a los directos. Y en esta lista hay un montón, muchos más de los que esperaba. Vamos con este. Pues mucho mejor de lo que esperaba: "Come on, come on" "I want you to want me","Goodnight", "Clock strikes ten" y por supuesto "Surrender".
Rated 6/10
Not a big fan of live albums, hopefully gonna come across a studio album from them. Not bad but not my thing
Rated 6/10
Aika tyhjänpäiväinen livelevy, enkä tiedä onko Cheap Trick bändinä hyvä juuri muussa kuin Top Gunin soundtrackina. Menköön nyt kuitenkin 3/5.
Rated 8/10
I'm a very casual fan of Cheap Trick but this live album really showcases what made them special. Super high energy and equal parts catchy and noisy. So many bops.
Rated 4/10
I'm still not sure live albums should be in the book. If they are, I suppose this is one of the most famous and important but, for me, that's another argument against its inclusion.
As an album, it is sloppy and messy, with only a couple of good songs. The band are clearly having a whale of a time, as are the audience, but it just makes me want to go to a show (probably not Cheap Trick tho!)
Rated 6/10
Enjoyable live album if not a little messy at times. Recognise a few songs that other bands had covered
Rated 4/10
Great guitar riffs, but not sure why this particular live album is on the 1001 list.
Rated 4/10
Nothing against Cheap Trick, but I prefer the studio versions of these songs...by far.
Rated 8/10
A tight rock and roll set played in front of a jubilant Japanese audience. The break between each track reveals an almost beatlemania-esqe fervor amongst the crowd, which had to have been a thrill for the band as well!
I feel like the energy just exploded on 'Come On, Come On', relented a bit during 'Need Your Love', and then just hard charged all the way through to the 'Clock Strikes Ten' encore. Also, the 'Hello There' and 'Goodnight' bookend tracks on the performance were a nice touch of showmanship.
All told, this had to have been an epic show and is translated fantastically to recording, which is saying a lot for a live performance.
Bonus points for 'Surrender' starting off with a sound bite that was sampled by the Beastie Boys.

This is probably the best, ballsiest sounding live record around. Big Eyes has huge energy on a weird guitar part that takes over the room like a big animal. turns out the audio is from Osaka and not at the Budokan, the recording there was a failure. FABULOUS ALBUM
