I dont know what he’s singing about, but I FELT it maan. This was really a breath of fresh air event amongst the 60s albums

Rated 8/10

pretty nice, unfortunately belgian

Rated 6/10

I quite enjoyed this, but I do have a soft spot for showtunes, and as a non-French speaker, this was quite musical theatre in feel and delivery. The audience is certainly into it.

Rated 4/10

Interesting, but I don't understand french.

I really love Jacques Brel's music and this one was a pleasant listen as well. However, I miss some of the uptempo songs that Olympia 61 has. Also doesn't really have the hits I like from him on here and the runtime is very short. Nevertheless a beautiful album. If only my French was adequate enough to listen to the lyrics.

Rated 4/10

Old french singer. This is a live version of the album. I listened to the whole album. Wasn't that bad, but I don't know what he was singing about.

Rated 2/10

Foreign languages are hard to rate but I hated the music so that made it easy. 1.375

Thankfully a short album. I assume this is fine if you're into this sort of thing... I'm not.

Rated 2/10

Jacques Brel may be a very good and important chanson singer. If I remember correctly, I also like one or two of his songs. I think the track Amsterdam is one of them. However, I can't do much with the live version of the album. I have also realized that chansons are obviously not my preferred music genre. It joins the rap, country and hip hop genres that I have avoided.
As I read in another comment, I can live very well without having heard this album.

Han virker passioneret, men sprogbarrieren er nok lidt for svær for mig at overkomme.
Croissant, Pain au chocolat, baguette, hon hon hon 🤌

Rated 2/10

It sounds like any french song from that era. I hate french music. Never got into it.

Rated 4/10

That was the most stereotypically French thing I’ve ever heard. I imagine he did that whole thing while wearing a beret and carrying a baguette. The recording also kinda sucks.

Rated 8/10

Rated 2/10

Couldn't get through it. Maybe some other ti,e. He's a good enough singer, and I'm sure this is a good example of the genre. I couldn't do it. Grateful for having a streaming subscription so I don't have to buy or try to borrow stuff like this.

Rated 8/10

This was a fun half hour. Brel’s singing was smooth as butter. I have no idea what he was saying but it didn’t matter. The album exudes charm and sophistication - probably because it’s all in French.

Rated 4/10

Jacques Brel is extreemvan theatraal.

Kwaliteit? Zeker!

Rated 6/10

There is certainly a language barrier for someone like myself who only speaks English, and you can almost certainly tell that with any of these French albums. They just have this feeling towards them where I know I'm missing something lyrically, and its my fault. However, I feel music is music, and the music part should carry still, and this one only kind of does. His voice can be powerful, and some of the instrumentation is nice, the horns remind me Sgt. Pepper, but it feels very repetitive even in its short runtime, and that language barrier really is killer, but perhaps I should give it the benefit of the doubt? There's no way its another French album about diddling kids, right? Then again, perhaps I should be moved by the music enough to find out what he's singing, and I'm not. So, mixed feelings on this one.

Rated 8/10

Great orchestra, well sung but don't care for the vocal style

Rated 6/10

Oh merde! Anyways, I like the first song, or chanson, called "Amsterdam" as Brel puts his full chest into it, but there after is very hit or miss. The recording is also very rough around the edges, applause fades in and out and sounds like basic stock audio clips inserted between songs, and the overall feel has the taste of half smoked Gauloises and Gitanes cigarettes.

Rated 4/10

He certainly has an exciting singing style, and I can hear where Scott Walker and Leonard Cohen got some inspiration, but it's a live album... And not only that, they recorded the crowd in the most abrasive and obnoxious way possible.
