„It's like rain on your wedding day“ ist die Zeile vom Welthit „Ironic“. Ich weiß aus eigener Erfahrung das muss nicht schlecht sein und so taucht man ein in einen der prägendsten Sounds der 90er. Tolle weitere Stücke „Your Oughta Know“, „Head Over Feet“ und nicht zuletzt „Hand in my pocket“. Gerade dieser Song überzeugt musikalisch und lyrisch. „ I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other is giving the peace sign.“ zeigt die Zerrissenheit und Komplexität der Generation X - Tolles Album 😊

The singles are still great, the rest not so much. Maybe 2.5

This album and artist reminds me of a horrible boss I had at the time this came out. She absolutely loved it and I can't stand it, but I recognize it's mostly because of the b**** Lynette. But also it has a kind of affectation that I don't like. The same as Lynette I guess.

Dang, I can't even get through the album and I'm normally down for a good rant.

Rated 8/10

Alanis wrote the song of the summer for like all of the early 2000s with this one album. Everything makes so much sense after listening to this record.

+ I like it when she tells me to be a good boy

Rated 8/10

Much more solid of an album than I remember. I remember my sister had this album and played the shit out of it in the mid 90's. I hated it at that time, but it's actually really good. Now that I haven't heard any of these songs for 15-20 years, I can actually enjoy them.

So many of her hits came from this one album. Ironic, You Oughta Know, You Learn, Head Over Feet, Hand In My Pocket...

Favourite songs: Ironic, You Oughta Know, Head Over Feet, You Learn, Hand in My Pocket, Right Through You

Least favourite songs: Perfect

This is an album I've been meaning to listen to for a long time. I'm so glad I did! Incredible impeccable alt rock. I love this genre and this is a top 5 album within it.

Rated 10/10

A tremendous album—at times angsty (“You Oughta Know”), wryly humorous (“Ironic”), and heartbreaking (“Mary Jane”). So many iconic tracks. A truly iconic albums of the nineties that really defines the sound of that era.

It reminds me of a favorite album of mine from the 80s: Tracy Chapman’s debut album. This feels like the 90s equivalent, replacing the folky sensibilities for a post-grunge rock sound. It’s the gripping lyrics and unforgettable hooks. And though occasionally I can find Alanis Morissette’s vocals slightly grating, this is undeniably a stellar album.

When I heard this was going to be turned into a musical I couldn't imagine. Now listening to this the whole way through, it's amazing they didn't sooner.

Rated 8/10

I haven't listened to this the whole way through in about a decade, so I was shocked by how many hits are on here. Like 75% must have been a radio hit! Some of the lyrics are a bit cringey now (particularly the ironically-not ironic "Ironic"), but there are some great songs on here. Although I can't listen to "You Oughta Know" anymoee without smiling at the memory of Kevin from the US Office performing it at karaoke.

Fucking fantastic

Rated 6/10

I don't like her vocals

Rated 6/10

That's a lot of radio hits!

Split up with boyfriend, throw troll at 14-inch TV with built in VHS recorder, watch Friends, have terrible hair, get shot by your brother's supersoaker, listen to Alanis Morissette. Because it's great. Especially You Oughta Know. And the typewriter font everyone used everywhere.

Rated 2/10

Rated 6/10

Absolutely ubiquitous in the 90s. So ubiquitous that I have a hard time judging it. It's like judging bottled water. It does make me feel nostalgic though, and it really captures the mainstream zeitgeist of its time very well. The fact that she was 21 when she made this amazes me. She is definitely getting some real shit off her chest and her vocal style is intense - like a human bagpipe. I'm gonna say I absolutely respect this, but ultimately, I never felt compelled to go out and buy this back in the day, and despite a fun nostalgia detour, it doesn't grab me on a deeper level than that.

Rated 8/10

I have listened to this album 10,000 times because my sister played it that many times when we were in high school, but I probably haven't heard it all the way through in 20 years. The first song is brash and abrassive and almost makes me turn it off. But after that it settles into an album of hit after hit, and I enjoyed listening to it again after all these years.

Rated 10/10

Haha god damn I like Alanis. So many choices she makes on here that should be obnoxious on paper, but just end up being extremely charming

*“HOWWwOWWowwW apprOAHpriaTe”* absolutely delightful

Rated 6/10

It's very decent pop/rock album and Alanis sure can sing.

But it never rises above that sublime single "You Oughta Know" with its Chili Pepper basslines and guitar.
The rest of the album never gets bad anywhere, but it's all very radio-friendly produced pop music. I would've loved for this album to just be that bit more Flea and Navarro and a little less Glen Ballard.

It's an album I wouldn't turn off when it's playing, but also not one I'd put on myself
