Perhaps it's unfair to judge them based on their debut when they were still in their Mod sound, but a lot of this album just doesnt "feel" like The Who to me. There's some songs that are definitely The Who, namely My Generation (and some even when they're still in their mod sound, like The Kids Are Alright and I Can't Explain, although the latter isn't on the original tracklist, so I won't grade the album with I Can't Explain included). Keith Moon isn't quite as manic and explosive as he will become a lot of the time. Feels like on some songs he's being handcuffed from doing what he wants to do, mainly because the music on this record wouldn't compliment his insane style.
The music can be a bit too "pretty" or standard sounding compared to their monstrous dinosaur rock they'd develop later on. The covers don't feel quite right for them either, even though they were definitely influenced by those bands, it wouldn't really be indicative of their later sound.
Overall, still a good album, but it mostly hints at what's to come, which is some of the best rock music ever produced and my favorite classic rock band.
As a side note, Quadrophenia being left off this list is unforgivable.

Nothing clicked for me on this album. The very last track had some interesting drumming, but that's about it.

The Who may have made better album later on in their career, but I just have a soft spot for this type of mid 60's R&B rock. My Generation is one of the best songs for the time. All the other songs here are enjoyable covers or originals. This album is brimming with energy, Keith has great energetic drumming and John Entwistle is one of the best bassists out there. Giving it anything other than 5 stars would be doing a disservice to how much I enjoy listening to this record.

4.0/5.0: Great
Rated 8/10
good album but not even close to the best output by the who
Rated 10/10
Somehow entirely avoids feeling dated. Just as mastrful poprock now as it was then
Rated 8/10
I enjoyed the mix of hard rock and blues songs. Really good cover of Please Please Please and of course My Generation and The Kiss Are Alright are iconic.

The Good: it is my generation!
The Bad: if my generation is their generation!
The Ugly: which is not my generation…
and that is why there is stuttering on the record!
Don’t know what to think, or say, about this record.
It isn’t bad, but it isn’t my thing either.
I do really like the song My Generation, so that’s a bonus…
However, I am not the kind of person who’d listen to a The Who album over and over, so I will run of the mill them at 3*

It was ok, but not life-changing. I never was a huge The Who fan.

Why does the app link to the mono version? Super weird
Anyway, this was alright. Please Please Please being my stand out

Before the grandiose ambitions. Enjoyable.

Я люблю більш пізній період The Who, це звісно стильний альбом, оця всі мод культура ітд ітп, але якось не знаю. Однойменна пісня мегахіт, інші ж для мене якось більш фоном проходять.

Just when you’re thinking this could be by any generic 1960s British band, along comes a track that makes you realise why The Who were exciting.

Excellent example from the British Invasion

Can definitely see why this is their debut album - it really feels like they're trying to find their footing. For me, so far, it is the weakest of their albums on this list. The drums are the highlight of the songs, but other than that, it is ok at best.

Pretty good/mid 60s rock record. 3/5.

Great debut album. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised at the couple of straightforward R&B tracks (including covers of James Brown and Bo Diddley) considering they were billed as "MAXIMUM R&B" but when The Good's Gone started my thought was "Ok, THIS is the Who!" Certainly a much more original debut than the Rolling Stones, who covered a bunch of rock & roll standards on their debut that weren't better than the originals, just faster (and whiter, unfortunately). But The Who were The Who from their debut, even if they evolved and became even better on later albums. Entwistle's thundering bass, Moon's frenetic drumming, Townshend's fantastic guitar work (and writing), and Daltrey's powerful vocals (often with Townshend's harmonies). Let's give credit also to Nicky Hopkins on piano. A legendary band right out of the gate. Favorite tracks: My Generation (The Who ANTHEM and a stone cold classic, with every element of The Who - Entwistle's bass solo is awesome), The Good's Gone, The Kids are Alright, The Ox (did anyone else rock this hard in 1965??). Easy 5.

This is an ok album; there are elements that will make future Who good, but not quite there, maybe because I listened to the mono version. The cover makes me think of Oasis. 2*
Highlights: my generation
Rated 6/10
My Generation is a pretty good album. This album seems to take a lot of inspiration from The Beatles just like a lot of the other psychedelic rock bands from this time period did but this album sounds quite a bit better than all of the Beatles albums i have currently listened to since this sound just happens to click with me a decent bit more. I also like this more than the other Who album i did due to just having less iffy songs on it's track list. The recording quality is a bit off but other than that, this album is a solid one even if it isn't doing anything that revolutionary.
Best Song: My Generation
Worst Song: The Good's Gone
Rated 8/10
I have never listened to this album before. I know The Who. Who's Next is nearly perfect. This is young and raw. I didn't expect the R&B covers, not sure what I expected. It's a lot of fun. I can hear hints of sophistication in their songwriting, but they're not the finished article yet.
