Et af de albums, hvor jeg virkelig gerne vil høre dem give lidt mere slip og gå lidt mere amok. Det bliver lidt for ensformigt og artigt for mig. Det ville klæde dem at lyde lidt mere, som de ser ud

The original goth girl.
Rated 8/10
I'll never not give credit to pioneers like Siouxsie.

Yeah, there’s this … or instead, you could write some good songs. This wasn’t the birth of a style as much as a shrug of apathetic disillusionment. I’ll pass.

John McGeoch, Keith Levene and John McKay. Seems being a post punk guitar originator was always a tough gig in different ways.
Having listened to the live version of their Helter Skelter cover more I still expect to hear Siouxsie repeat "I stop" after the music stops abruptly.
It's nice to see this record gets some of the recognition it deserves these days. I can remember when noses were generally upturned in its and the Banshees' direction in the music press.
I can't decide whether it is right that as a band they only exist in their own time or whether they ought to be playing series of massive outdoor summer shows like their old support act The Cure. Probably the former but still....

Aaaaaaaaa
I don't even like Beatleses 'Helter Skelter', but I sure don't like this one, too.
I rounded their last album up to a 3 because of their influence, but they don't need 2 albums on here, so this one gets a 2. Sorry Siouxsie.

I love goth music I love post punk I love Siouxsie I love Robert Smith. 4.5 because there better to come from these sad British people

So good. So raw yet perfect sound. Also, I guess it should have been obvious, but I never realized how much Siouxsie is a clear influence on PJ Harvey

After a week of apalling or uninteresting records to listen, the randomizer gives me an opportunity to delve further into the discography of Siouxsie which is something I had wanted to do in a while. This is a solid debut record and has some of their greatest hits. I do still find it inferior to Juju and Kaleidoscope but it is a good moment in their discography.

I know that post-punk isn’t for me, and this isn’t winning me over either. There’s barely any variance between the songs here, and it all feels kind of disjointed and one-note.
I kind of want to give it a higher score because Siouxsie Sioux is so iconic, but I just think it’s really boring and shit. I’m not enjoying this at all.

Better than juju, I had a good time

Exactly the kind of moody, stylish punk I like. Great record.

Meh. Some songs are ok-ish.

Feel like I've always known Siouxsie & The Banshees' music without really properly getting into it, so this was a great excuse to properly listen. This record is clearly massively influential on loads of later stuff that I love. Siouxsie's voice and the coruscating guitar is amazing. Not sure about the Helter Skelter cover, and some of Hong Kong Garden hasn't dated brilliantly, but everything else is mystical and thrilling. Didn't hit me as a 5 star on this initial listen, but definitely want to come back to it which could up it from the 4 I'm giving for now.

What a goddamn earsore. I started out with an open mind but I was ready for this meandering, repetitive, nothing of an album to be over from by a few tracks in. I'm happy for folks who like Siouxsie And The Banshees, but it's not for me. 1/5

Couple of classics, but maybe just a bit too messy.

The Scream by Siouxsie and the Banshees is a striking and thrilling debut that I genuinely enjoyed. It’s an album that still feels sharp-edged and alive, full of jagged guitars, icy atmospheres, and Siouxsie Sioux’s commanding presence. There’s an intensity running through the whole record that pulls you in straight away dark, dramatic, and completely self-assured.
What stands out most is how fresh it still sounds. For a late-70s release, it feels wildly forward-thinking, carving out a bold space between punk, post-punk, and something uniquely theirs. The basslines are hypnotic, the guitars angular, and the rhythms relentless, creating a kind of controlled chaos that is utterly compelling. It’s easy to see why this album is considered such an influential cornerstone.
Even with its raw edges, the album is cohesive and atmospheric, and I found myself really immersed in its world. It’s intense but never alienating, experimental but still accessible a balance few debuts manage so well.
Favourite track: I really like the cover of Helter Skelter and Nicotine Stain is also an excellent song
Least favourite track: Everything on the album was worth a listen
Album artwork: Dark album cover

Very cool album! It did kind of blend into itself as a "sound" more than individual songs, but... wow, and must have been crazily unique when it came out and all of that! :) I'll definitely re-listen!
