nice album
Rated 6/10
Listened before? No
Familiar with the artist? Yes
Thoughts:
- There's a bit of nostalgia with the singles here - definitely grew up hearing "All I Wanna Do" on the radio all the time.
- Those 3-4 singles are still great, but the rest of the tracks aren't really that interesting to me.
Favorite track(s): Strong Enough
Rated 8/10
Hardly the most complex or innovative album on the list, so it's hard to articulate why I liked it so much other than "it's fun". It just hits a lot of the right notes for me personally!
Standouts: Run, Baby, Run • Strong Enough • Can't Cry Anymore • The Na-Na Song • What I Can Do For You • All I Wanna Do • We Do What We Can
Rated 6/10
Oh yeah, Sheryl Crow. I didn't expect to see her in this project. But why not? Back then, her album was really popular among my friends. I think we even had it in our collection. "All I Wanna Do" played over and over again. Her voice and the music are cool. It was nice to hear that again, even if it won't happen very often. 3/5

Better than Coldplay

This sounds like something you’d come up with in a college songwriting class. A little contrived but not all bad. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. After “…Fun” it went off the tracks.
Rated 4/10
Totally unremarkable album.
Favorite Song: All I Wanna Do
Rated 4/10
There were moments where I thought it was finally going to get interesting, but it quickly went back to simple country rock.
Rated 2/10
As far as I’m concerned, the only great song Sheryl Crow has is “If It Makes You Happy.” It borders on alternative rock, which for someone whose entire career up to that point was pretty mediocre adult alternative, is a huge step up, and I really enjoy the song even in the context of more critically acclaimed stuff released that year. This album… is the mediocre adult alternative I was referring to.
For one, Crow is an abysmal lyricist. If she didn’t make that clear in “Strong Enough” or “Solidify,” her rhyming “Record Label” with “TABLE TABLE TABLE” on “The Na-Na Song,” (which somehow destroyed all my expectations of how bad it would be,) like a drunk fucking mom did.
And I don’t wanna be mean about this either, even though I just was. I just don’t know why this album is even on this list. At its best it’s alright but pretty boring, at its worst… it’s legitimately awful. The only almost-great track is “All I Wanna Do,” which is still pretty obviously flawed. Overall a very very VERY unimpressive album, with no real high points, and just a whole lot of bad.

DOES IT BELONG ON THE LIST: NO
REASON: bad
WHAT WOULD I REPLACE IT WITH: Sheryl Crow

Like chugging a litre of beige paint.
Just off the top of my dome, this was released the same year as Emmylou Harris' Cowgirl's Prayer, and the Breeders Last Splash if you, dear reader, need a palate cleanser, or two 🍻
Rated 8/10
I thought the “na na song” was a real groaner, one of the worst songs I’ve heard … well, we just had that Van Halen album a few days ago. So one of the worst non-Van Halen songs I’ve heard in a long time.
But besides that, the singles are great and new-to-me “I shall believe” was a standout.
Rated 6/10
Wasn't really looking forward to this, but it turned out to be surprisingly good. Some of the songs on here were incredibly Funky, kind of a fun surprise that it was a blend of Country and Funk and Pop here. Had some genuine fun songs I'd put on again, but they are balanced out by the less interesting and slower paced ballads on here. Bit of a mixed bag at the end, and the stand out hit isn't all that great either.
Rated 4/10
I thought I only knew All I Wanna Do, but it turned out I knew Run, Baby, Run, Leaving Las Vegas and Strong Enough too. That kind of points to my main issue with this album – it's nice enough when you're listening to it, but then it slips straight out of your head.
Rated 7/10
I've been wanting to check out Sheryl Crow's stuff for a while now but just never got around to it until now. I don't know why, but for some reason I was under the impression that she was more of a folk, singer-songwriter type of artist. Akin to Joni Mitchell or Carole King. This album was a lot more poppy than I expected it to be. It's like a mix between Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain. I didn't think I had heard any of her stuff before listening. Now I realize I've heard All I Wanna Do on the radio absolutely nonstop, I just didn't know it was her.
All that being said, this album is pretty middle of the road for me. Disappointing for an artist that I was looking forward to. The songs that were good were pretty damn good, but most of it just seems like filler. This is just her debut though. I can tell she has a lot of talent here even if it isn't top notch. Maybe her later albums are better? I hope so.

good enough but feels a bit like a less interesting fiona apple, leaving las vegas was a highlight though
Rated 4/10
Oh this was so bland and boring. Just the most radio friendly beige nothingness music. I ended up skipping chunks of songs and went back to listen to my last band, Pere Ubu, because they actually sound like something and are trying to do something with their music

The Good: We joined a club!
The Bad: It’s on a Tuesday…
The Ugly: Me singing out of tune…
Many moons ago, and I might be repeating myself, I was listening to a random playlist when all of a sudden No One Is To Blame by Howard Jones started playing and I was instantly transported back to a high school party, where I was making out with my then girlfriend… and I felt melancholy.
The opening track of this album could have the same effect… but it is the big hit which really introduced Sheryl Crow to the world that sent me right back to a hot Texas weekend, partying at our local bar, then heading to an after party in a convertible while All I Wanna Do was being chanted out loud by all passengers… out of key… and nobody cared, because we were having fun.
Anyway, I played the entire album three times in a row… and each time I just enjoyed ride, over and over again.
Is this a 5* album? Nope. But it sure made me enjoy listening to music again after the run of sub-par albums I’ve had to listen to these past couple of weeks.
So here’s to you Sheryl, 5* for bringing me back to my college days!
Rated 2/10
At the end of the first song, I really didn't have any complaints. I didn't have any expectations going in, but I like country music, so I didn't think it could be bad. The end of the first song got annoying though. And that's true for every song on the album. They go on much longer than they need to and it gets way too repetitive and annoying. And then, to make matters worse, this is maybe bottom 5 vocal performances I've heard on the list so far. The only redeeming factor is the very basic and inoffensive instrumentals
Rated 4/10
I never sat down and actually listened to her before, but this is not bad at all. Don't get me wrong - this is not my cup of tea at all, but quite descent after all, might even get 3 stars.

This takes me back to my earliest days of watching videos on MTV. I remember 'All I Wanna Do' was in heavy rotation at that time. The singles on this album are good, but the rest doesn't grab me. 3.5 stars.
