Rated 8/10
First half of the album is great fun, then the second half gets heavy in the subject matter.
Rated 8/10
Distilled essence of 90s. Good stuff though - I enjoyed this back then, and it still holds up.

Back in the day I wasn't a fan of Jane's Addiction because I thought their hits had kind of a grating sound - mostly because Perry Farrell's vocals are slightly off key. So I was shocked (pun intended) by the fact that Nothing's Shocking sounded so good. Well, this album shows there are two Jane's Addictions. The first half of the album has that grating sound, and I realized it's not just Perry's vocals, but even Dave Navarro's guitar sound has this metallic edge that bothers me a little (which is a shame, because he is an awesome guitarist). But then the second half of the album (starting with Three Days) is the band that blew me away on Nothing's Shocking (and boy can you hear the Led Zep influence on this album). Still, I'll give them their due - even the grating sound of the first half doesn't take away from the fact that every song is a banger and again shows Jane's Addiction was ahead of the curve - grunge before grunge broke through in 1991. The second half is an easy 5. I'd go with a 4 for the first half, mainly to take a point away for the grating sound. But since the songs are so good, I'm going to round the 4.5 average up to a 5.

Love the opening energy of Stop. The forward drive of the guitars and drums is electrifying and so fun. Been caught stealing is another great track.
Wasn’t loving Three Days but the bridge drums took it up a notch for me.
Of Course: what?! A Klezmer song in 3/4?!
Overall a 3* for me, not sure I’d revisit the album as a whole, but has some great tracks. A 4* is an album that is overall enjoyed and I would revisit even if not all tracks I loved.

Ehh. I'm not a fan. I like some of their singles, but a lot of this just melds together as one big noise, and a bunch of tracks also annoyed me.

I've bee sleeping on Jane's Addiction too long. Such cool sound. Vibrant and rebellious but interesting and pretty at times.
Rated 6/10
I may just not be the mood for an album like this at the moment, but this album impressed me far less than their prior album. I feel a lot of songs almost hit the mark, but then either went on too long and made me lose interest, or felt more like I was being yelled at, in a weird, not yell-y way. Pros are there, such as the inclusion of pretty solid string sections, and a song like Been Caught Stealing is of course a banger, but this just feels like snippets of a better album, yet runs longer than that better album probably would. I sound overwhelmingly negative here, so I should specify that this is still an alright album, and will be getting a light three, but I am pretty disappointed. Again, though, could be that I'm just not in the mood for this style of music.

Can't really stand Jane's Addiction. Feel like Been Caught Stealing is by far one of their better songs...and it is just average in the 90's pantheon. 1.5/5
Rated 6/10
Bland and unexciting, all songs sound kind of the same. Not great, but just meh
Rated 10/10
This is Jane's Addictions Magnum Opus.
First half of the album is where this cult band rocks with the best, and especially Dave Navarro showcases his talent.
The Second half is the part of this album that has to grow on you.
There really is no bad song on this album.

lol this ended up being pretty fun, had a very specific 90s brattiness that shows its age, but is kinda charming for it
Rated 6/10
I have never listened to an entire Jane's Addiction album, only know them from the radio play they got. So the first half of this album was enjoyable, a few songs I knew and some similar songs. But the album had a second half which isn't great and is, in fact, quite boring. So it's fine in the aggregate.

Great album
Rated 6/10
Very likable and an interesting sound, just not entirely convinced about their abilities as songwriters. "Been Caught Stealing" is the exception that proves the rule.
Rated 6/10
Jane's Addiction sound as if they are deliberately being obnoxious half the time, largely due to Perry Farrell's vocal technique. If you were a teenager looking to piss of your parents in the early 90s, playing this album on repeat would do the trick. I remember being captivated by the video for "Been Caught Stealing" as a kid and have a little nostalgic feeling for that tune. Other than that though, the rest of the album literally put me to sleep. I understand why this is on the list in terms of influence but I don't personally enjoy it. It was a strange and awkward adolescent time in the late 80s and early 90s for "alternative" music before Nirvana kicked it into full on raging puberty.

stop stealing!
Rated 10/10
Stop is a strong opener. Ain't No Right is way out there. This album really is not afraid to graft a new sound or texture onto the core of straight ahead hard rock. 3 Days is a great song and then straight into Then She Did. Classic Girl is a wonderful send up.
