Rated 10/10

This is basically a psychedelic rock album, but with different instruments. And a great one at that.

I'll have to see where this one stands against "Dig Your Own Hole" ("Surrender" was really good too, from what I remember, but it's not on this list).

Anyway, listen to it.

Not fantastic

The Chemical Brothers make a particularly rubbery sounding type of techno. And honestly, it grooves in a pretty infectious way. I don't have a lot to say about this, but it is very enjoyable.

Soms worden we er weer eens aan herinnerd dat we allemaal wel wat meer breakbeat in ons leven kunnen gebruiken.

Rated 6/10

I like dance music. I like electronic music. I like club music. So I like what The Chemical Brothers do.

But by the 50th repetition of the same bar, even I start to get a little tired of it.

Unless I’m in a club and have had a lot of beer.

vibe indescritível de filme de hacker dos anos 90
nao eh um album pra ouvir preso no avião aguardando a liberação pra decolar a uma hora. enfim. nao eh ruim nao, apenas meia boca

My second album from The Chemical Brothers and it was pretty good but I definitely preferred Dig Your Own Hole out of the two.

I didn’t get bored of it at any point which is more than I can say for a lot of Electronic albums on here, it just didn’t have anything that massively stood out to push it beyond three stars.

Rated 6/10

Solid. I'm not a huge house/EDM person, but this is definitely fun to listen to on occasion and shows a lot of variety and creativity. I honestly think the link to jazz and some other free-form tribal music is understated.

Rated 8/10

This is one of those bands (is a duo a band? I guess so) that I think I've heard before, but I might be mixing them up with someone else. 90s electronica, though, so I've probably heard them somewhere or another. (Update: yes, I have, although more their third album than this one. 'Let Forever Be' is a banger.) This is very Basement Jaxxy. Every song sounds a little bit like 'Where's Your Head At', but a bit better, in my estimation, although it'd be better still without all the "yeah"s and suchlike. When my neighbor was leaf-blowing, I wanted to give this a 3; when it was quiet outside, I wanted to give it a 4. I will round up, because that's the world I want to live in.

I think the middle of the album was the strongest. Hey, Beth Orton (vocalist for the last track) was on this list before. I guess there are only so many British people.

Grammar check: Is 'Three Little Birdies Down Beats' supposed to be 'Three Little Birdies's Down Beats' or is "down" a verb here? I guess I should respect the text as written... but I think it's the first one. Anyway, I support the little birdies whatever they're doing.

Highlights: 'Chico's Groove', 'One Too Many Mornings'

Showing it's age now.

Gets the job done. Overall not impressive and nowhere near as good as The Prodigy were at this same time but still quite good 90s dance music.

Rated 4/10

Roh, laut, voll Big‑Beat‑Eifer, aber heute eher ein stilistischer Entwurf als ein starkes Album. Viel Druck, wenig Feinheit.

Rated 6/10

This style of music has never really been my thing. Despite that, though, I think this is one of the better albums in this genre. There were quite a few songs I liked. The opening track especially is great. Will I regularly return to this in full? No, probably not. But I still really respect it.

Exit Planet Dust is often praised as a groundbreaking electronic album, but it didn't click with me. While I can appreciate its influence and the way it helped shape the big beat genre, I found the listening experience repetitive and lacking memorable moments.
The production is solid, with heavy beats and layered samples, but many of the tracks blur together instead of standing out on their own. Rather than building excitement, the album started to feel monotonous after a while. I was also hoping for stronger melodies or more dynamic song structures, but much of it stayed in the same groove without enough variation to keep me engaged.
There are flashes of creativity throughout the record, and it's easy to understand why it has such a strong reputation among fans of electronic music. Still, influence doesn't always translate into enjoyment. For me, Exit Planet Dust felt more historically important than genuinely entertaining, and I finished it appreciating its legacy more than the music itself.
Overall, I'd give it 1.5/5. I respect what it accomplished, but it's not an album I see myself revisiting.

Phew! The nineties were pretty exhausting. The Chemical Brothers' debut album, "Exit Planet Dust", is quite monotonous. While it's certainly hypnotic and exhilarating in a club, at home on the couch 30 years after its release, it's just tiring synthetic minimalist rhythms. It's not bad — I understand why this sound became so important — but looking back, it simply reflects the hustle and bustle, excitement and hedonism of the time.

Rated 4/10

This album gave me a bit of trouble and I'm not even sure why! On paper it's supposed to be right up my alley. I hear elements of other electronic music I adore, such as some Homework-type harsh beats and even some trippy hoppy rhythms. Despite all of that, I found this listen pretty tedious by the end of it. Not big on the big beat unfortunately!

Standout: One Too Many Mornings

Didn't have high hopes after the last one of theirs and if anything i enjoyed this even less

Rated 8/10

Surprisingly enjoyed this. When I see a 90s album from a pioneering electronic artist, I am prepared to be let down. This time it actually resembled dance music and was fun

Rated 8/10

I've heard some songs in isolation, but never a full album of theirs. I loved how it flowed into one superset.

Rated 4/10

Like most of the electronic music on this list, I think this would be cool at a club, rave or maybe if you’re on drugs. I don't know. It's not my jam otherwise.
