Very nice
Rated 10/10
The stereotypical example for “ahead of its time”. I’ve been a little generous with scores recently but this one is deserving. These songs are all great. The vocals work with the style even if they aren’t “good”.
Rated 8/10
Great album, so many popular songs, and a sound unique to the band. Open with a lot of space for each musician to shine. It can become a little grating over time, but it's a good one to put on every now and again for something different.
Rated 4/10
I know the first song which was fun. The rest are okay. I can see why the rest didn’t ever become popular
Rated 8/10
that was mostly quite enjoyable!

His voice is a bit annoying

Yeah. I’ve loved this album for a long time. I’d put the first four track up against any other opening four tracks. The rest of the album is also so, so good.
This is an easy 5 stars for me and seeing them live is fun.

I remember listening to this like 10-15 years ago and disliking it quite a bit aside from Blister in the Sun. This go around, now that I have a better appreciation for folk punk (AJJ, Harley Poe, and Stick and Poke), I'm enjoying this quite a bit more.
Definitely seeing this band's influence on Harley Poe, just without the misanthropic murder folk vibes. So yeah, if you like Violent Femmes, you'll enjoy Harley Poe. Singer sounds similar too.
I will say though, this album sounds shockingly ahead of time. It blew my mind this was released in 83. Production is great, clear, and this album could have easily released in the 2010s with no one thinking it was dated.

Cool. Reminds me of Pixies and Minutemen. I like the use of acoustic guitars in a punky way. It's got personality and a unique, unorthodox approach with good songs.
Rated 8/10
This is a difficult one to rate, because half of the album is certifiable bangers that are very fun. The other half of the album is fine, but fairly forgettable. I can listen to the bangers now and forever, but don't care at all about the others. So how do I rate an album like that? It's 3.5 if this project had half stars.
Rated 6/10
Not too bad, but a lot of the songs are just about wanting a girl and doing things to her.
Low 3/5.

This was screaming one hit wonder
Opened with a banger and it was all downhill from there

ou blister in the sun eh BOA DEMAIS
gostei muito mais do resto do album do que das primeiras vezes que ouvi, inclusive. o início do folk punk que não eh mto pra mim mas eh apreciável!!
Rated 8/10
I absolutely love the "heaviness" they create without loud drums/cymbals or heavy guitars, it's really clever and sounds sooo cool.
My closest album to a 5 so far but not quite every song was super.
Rated 10/10
Another one I've needed to give more listens to, and this confirms it because I really dug it. The acoustic bass is super interesting. The lyrics are also really sharp and witty.
Rated 6/10
Violent Femmes is an album that i have somewhat mixed feelings on. I definitely didn't hate it but it wasn't something i really loved either. It does feel quite a bit different from a lot of the other punk albums i have heard on this project with this one feeling more acoustic than a lot of the others. The music here is pretty good albeit a bit forgettable as there is not a whole lot of differentiation between the songs with them only having a few interesting moments. The lyrics are not all that great either due to some of them feeling more perverted than i would have wanted. It is still a pretty decent album but its not one that i really want to go back to.
Best Song: Add It Up
Worst Song: Gimme the Car
Rated 10/10
Superb. This album was released when I was a mere embryo, but it sounds more like my childhood. Also A+ xylophone use.
Rated 10/10
I’ve heard bits of Blister in the Sun hundreds of times. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard the whole song and I definitely haven’t heard the whole album, but holy shit it just keeps getting better and better!
Favourite song(s): Please Do Not Go, Confessions

Acoustic punk is something I never thought I would hear. I don't know how to feel about this.
Rated 8/10
Tried to download this off Limewire back in the day. Frustratingly only managed about five or six songs. Good to finally catch up with the whole thing. Blister in the Sun is the sound of summers I wish I had as a teenager.
