Well, you know what they say about Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette: the former sang songs lamenting marital problems but was happily married all her life, and the latter sang about the steadfastness of love but experienced messy divorces.

I've spent so much time lately complaining about the latest edition and the albums it's added and removed, that it's kind of nice for the algorithm to remind me that there have been shit albums on the list from the start.

I think this is as close as I’ll ever get to liking an old school country record. Great voice and delivery. Still dislike the style but respect the performance.

This is Classic Country in every way possible. 12 songs, 6 a side and all related to Rural life troubles. Loretta Lynn has a classic Country voice as well. I love this era of Country, this one was a nice discovery. Simple album but it's all in the delivery and the songwriting. Great if you're into stuff like Tammy Wynette and Dolly Parton and an essential woman to the history of Country music.

Beautiful album. I love it, but if you listen to it too much her voice becomes irritating. Great lyrics and musicality though.

Full frontal country. Hopeloos gedateerd. Het is dat mevrouw wel kan zingen, maar de hele klank van dit album ben ik nu al veel te vaak tegengekomen in deze lijst.

F**k this. There’s way too much country on this list—no one in this world should have to listen to more than a (very) few songs of this genre before they die.
To me, country is just another genre of music that makes you want to die if you have to listen to it—in fact, I’ve actually thought about shooting myself while listening to this! Luckily for me, there aren’t as many guns in my country as there are in the U.S.
F**k it

What a tragic album. If my wife was making music like this, I'd be very concerned I was a piece of shit. I can't imagine Loretta and her husband were together for something like 50 years, with her dealing with the subject matter of most of these songs the whole time. What a miserable life that must have been.
Extraordinary vocal control of her very sweet voice. Solid country album. I don't think I'll be returning to this, but she deserves every bit of the stars I'm giving.

Well...this is good old country. If you hate country, you're not gonna like it. If you love country, I guess you'll love it.
I'm not a huge fan of country, but I really enjoyed this one. It's a solid 4 star album for me.
Some songs I particularly enjoyed: "I Really Don't Want To Know", "There Goes My Everything", "Saint To A Sinner", "The Devil Gets His Due" (probably my favourite), "Get What 'Cha Got And Go", or "Making Plans".

I'll tell you what, Loretta was out here preaching her own brand of folksy feminism long before the suits in Nashville were ready for it, and she clearly ain't here for any of your shit, son. She’s serving up sharp, no-nonsense storytelling about staying strong and holding your ground when your husband is out doing you wrong. Even if you aren't usually one for old-school country, it’s damn near impossible not to respect a woman who can flip the bird to a cheating, abusive husband while hitting a flawless, sweet vibrato. It's simple, it's brutally honest, and it's an absolute masterclass in taking the ugly side of life and turning it into country gold.

I love her singing, but I hate what she’s singing about. This is the subject matter in country music that I don’t care for; I just don’t relate to a single one of these songs.

My first act as Supreme World Leader will be to outlaw all country music and erase its memory from the Earth.

great voice but mostly boring songs

The Good: We get to stay at the bar and get sloshed!
The Bad: Showing up at home, drunk as a skunk, the door remains locked…
The Ugly: Well… if you can’t get lovin’ at home…
Is this album on the list because we really need to hear the entire album, or could this have been a mistake and Mr D mistakenly swapped his 1001 songs to get drunk to list?
My finger started twitching by the time song two was half-way through, and it didn’t stop twitching till the album was over… which, seeing as the album lasts about as long as an elephant’s fart, it isn’t that bad. Still, this album tested my willingness to listen to each and every song.
Tragic story, Loretta’s life. Glad she was able to make a good living.
Me, happy that this ordeal is over with…

This is everything I dislike about Country as a genre.
It’s almost impressive how much this is the perfect distillation of all I loathe!

So far this list is making me like country
As one 1001 user says, “I never thought that I’d be sitting here enjoying music, yet here we are”
Rated 6/10
Pretty solid country, but meta-textually frustrating. I'm sure there's at least a little nuance to her beliefs, but singing songs like Don't Come Home A Drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind) then saying that you're "not a big fan of women's liberation" sits weirdly with me. More recently, Loretta Lynn also also staged a "joke wedding" with close personal friend Kid Rock, a man I do not respect, which sits weirdly with me for similar reasons. And it sucks because she had some really powerful songs in the 60's that it really seems like she grew out of touch with. I'll say I don't think she was a horrible person or anything, she was just consistently frustrating as of late. But regardless of this, I'm sure I listen to musicians with greater sins, and this is a pretty strong collection of songs. Though, looking back at it, it doesn't feel like there's anything separating this from the pack as far as country albums of the time go. But I am willing to chalk that up to the flaws of hindsight. She is plenty charismatic and has some really talent for performance as well. I don't have a ton to say, but this was broadly enjoyable.
