Was really fun but I guess i dont like brazilian music as much as I want to

A common problem with this style of 60s psychedelia across the board is that there're too many whiplash style changes within individual songs as if pure juxtaposition is an incredibly clever compositional technique and that eclecticism means doing lots of different things in quick succession. It just ends up being annoying, like listening to someone else flicking through radio stations trying to find something good and then changing as soon as you're settling and starting to enjoy it. Likewise, the production is overly full and distractingly busy - too much flute and the chamber pop arrangements are cloying. Learn to say no. The songs where they keep it simple and stick to one sound are ok, at least not actively unpleasant. Something about Portuguese saudade style melodic phrasing just doesn't work for me either, every line can't be an anti-climax. I've tried to like tropicalia so many times - on paper sounds so cool - but it just doesn't work for me at all.

COMO É BOM SER BRASILEIRA

Rated 8/10

Fun jazzy 70's rock from Brazil. I'd definitely like to come back to this one again.

A cracker for a sunny day, with a great mix of genres and styles, and some wonderful guest vocalists. Sounds much more modern than when it was out - especially "Alegria, Alegria", which has had quite the story!
I really enjoyed the whole album, and will explore more Latin American music once I have the time.

Not sure why he looks so moody? This is a nice upbeat album!

I love the wild mix of styles here. Some bossa nova stuff is tough to get into for me, but mixing that with elements of psych rock and pop really makes for a cool experience. I'm really glad to learn about this album. I just hope he doesn't come through the screen out of that picture and murder me...

Rated 4/10

Some of it is pleasant. There's some chilled tracks with nice violins and guitar. Some of it is kind of boring. In fact it's mostly boring. I'm not really into it.

2.5 rounded down.

I've found myself generally liking what I've heard from Brazil and its weird ventures into the psychedelic, but I feel as though this album doesn't really perfectly strike those points that I enjoyed in works like Os Mutantes. Its still good, but could stand to commit to a song more often, as there are many times in a track where it'll stsrt to get good just to end a few moments later, and believe you me, I love a short song, but an unfinished song is not how you do it. There's a lot here to like, with fun tracks that make you feel like bouncing up and down, but one has to wish for a little bit more substance in its tracks, because if I want to party, this would probably not be my first choice for dancey, flavorful tracks, but again, a solid enough venture.

The futuristic sound of the 60's, and of psychedelic latin america, is my jam.

Groovy! What's not to like? Nothing resonated so fiercely to call me to repeat listen, but it was an enjoyable ride. Might listen to the whole again.

This really failed to move me in any meaningful way.

Rated 4/10

I liked some of the guitar work, but overally this wasn't anything I could get into. Didn't want to turn it off, so it had that going for it, I guess.

Rated 6/10

Enjoyable Brazilian album.

Rated 8/10

Though I prefer the more manic and experimental Os Mutantes when it comes to Tropicalia, I am sucker for nearly any 60s psychedelia - especially when it incorporates so many influences. Giro.
