The Band

Rated 4/10

I absolutely hate Bob Dylan, so I guess they are better for not having him as the lead anymore. Still dull.

Rated 4/10

Not a fan of this one. Generic southern rock that I can in no way connect with. The lead singers voice is weak and muted. The yodeling at one point made it more interesting. All around not a fan. 1.5/5 -> 2/5.

One of the jewels in the crown of folk-rock. Great album from start to finish.

Woof. This is either not my music entirely or I wasn't in the mood. I don't mind Up On Cripple Creek, but I wouldn't say I love it. It's fine. But the rest of this did nothing for me.

Rated 8/10

Who could have guessed that a band named "The Band" would be incredibly boring and middle-of-the-road dad rock? I mean... it's alright. It's competent. It's just not exciting in any way shape or form.

2.5 rounded up

Never got the hype with these guys, despite a few real tries. It's all so...fine? Feels like a college project about americana - well thought out, tastefully arranged, and performed skillfully, but without any real gusto it ends up pretty bland and lifeless. I didn't realize the last few songs on the album are so good, but it turned out Spotify was just auto-playing Gram Parsons and Buffalo Springfield.

Rated 4/10

It's kind of funny that I got this so close to a Bob Dylan album, but this left a lot to be desired. Felt boring the whole thing, and gave a vibe the same way CCR does for me where it feels close to being something I like but instead just feels like southern rock 'n' roll stereotypes all rolled into one album. I have nothing wrong with this, just disappointed really. Hope Music from Big Pink is better.

Rated 1/10

Just as dreadful as Music From Big Pink

Rated 4/10

Its The Band! OK album. Old country rock style.

Rated 8/10

Great 60's sound. Loved the bluegrass meets pop feel. Would listen again

Rated 8/10

Not a new one to me, very solid album. Maybe not as good as "Music From the Big Pink" though.

Rated 2/10

Southern Rock. If thats your thing, go right ahead. Up On Cripple Creek is a cool tune.

Rated 6/10

An album must click with you emotionally. No matter how good the music is, how non-intrusive the listens, when no song makes you listen closer and no lyrics stand really out, there's also not really a use to listen to it anymore after these first 3 playthroughs.

The Band does nothing to me.

Rated 8/10

Sukellus Americanan syvään päätyyn. Lopetusraita ehkä oma suosikki tältä levyltä, mutta myös esim. avaus ja isommat hitit toimii. 4/5.

Rated 10/10

Although I think you get diminishing returns from the studio albums of The Band as they move away from their debut, this album is just a notch below the mythic "Music From Big Pink." An A to Big Pink's A+. This album has "Cripple Creek" on it for God's sake - can't be anything less than five stars. Quite possibly the most soulful thing a group comprised mostly of Canadians ever recorded (besides "The Weight" that is). My second favorite track is definitely "Jawbone" with its triumphant chorus and swirling 6/4 time signature.

This is the record where they really stepped out from Bob Dylan's shadow and established themselves as a complete creative powerhouse in their own right. I love that they have multiple vocalists, as they are each suited to different material, and I especially love the interplay between them, but I have always gravitated most towards the songs where Levon Helm's southern twang takes the lead. Man I just wanna get good and drunk and listen to this on repeat all night.

Rated 6/10

A little too long, but does have some absolute classics. 3.5/5
