Broadly, I like Neil's work with Crazy Horse better than his solo stuff, though I am not enchanted with the toanl qualities of his music, so its hard to appreciate his mastery of songwriting. I think I am at piece with accepting his influence in artists that I like and not being totally into his work. I suppose of all the albums of his that I have heard so far, I like this one the best.

Neil Young definitely went electric for this one.

It's fine. It has some nice guitar work and is pretty competently made in general, but it's definitely not exciting and nearly all the tracks go on for way too long. You could easily lose 2-3 minutes of generic jamming off of nearly every track. It wore on me more and more as it went on - it's just all a bit generic and samey.

Rated 8/10

Much prefer Neil when he's rocking like this. Great stuff!

Vier sterren dus.

Another Neil Young album? And we just recently had Rust Never Sleeps. Here's my problem with this - there are only so many albums you can select for the 1001 albums. If you're going to have multiple from a single artist, there should be a REASON, like every album picked is highly influential or amazing (e.g., The Beatles, Led Zep) or the albums change a lot and it's worth hearing how the artist evolved (Bowie, Bowie, Bowie). But when you have something like Neil Young where many of his albums sound similar, pick a representative one (or two) and let's move on. Rust Never Sleeps was much better than Ragged Glory, so Rust Never Sleeps would have been enough. On the Beach is a very different style, so I support having that, but we didn't need Tonight's the Night. And I haven't reviewed Harvest yet, which I know is a pure classic. So, I really think this album (and Tonight's the Night) were completely unnecessary. Sure, this is all my opinion, but there are so many great artists and albums not included in the 1001 albums and I think they should have been a little more discriminating about what to exclude.

Rant over. I like Neil Young, but this album sounds sloppy and I'm not a fan of the guitar tone. Pretty grating. Neil's singing on "Over and Over" is absolutely awful. I liked F*!*!n' Up, but was annoyed at the feedback at the end (which they also did at the end of Farmer John). Many of the songs sound derivative of his earlier songs (e.g., Love to Burn includes similar progressions to the verses in Rockin in the Free World, which came out a year earlier, Mansion on the Hill sounds like earlier stuff, with CSNY harmonies to boot). Just don't know why this album was picked. A 2 seems harsh, but I'm going there.

Wikipedia has this down as a "garage rock / grunge" album, huh?

At this point of the 1001 list, I'm quite tired of Neil Young!

Rated 8/10

This is the second album of Neil Young's that I've reviewed on this album generator. This one, from his time recording with the band Crazy Horse.

This, unlike his solo stuff, is more rockin' than folky. It is fantastic!!

I really enjoyed the harmonies reached by Crazy Horse and Neil Young. Every song on this album was awesome. Even the couple of 10 minute epics. The only song I didn't care for was Farmer John. It felt rushed and unfinished.

Overall, thoroughly enjoyed this album. Will definately listen again!

Favourite songs: F!#*in Up, Country Home, Over and Over, Mansion on the Hill, Love to Burn, Days that Used to Be

Least favourite song: Farmer John

While I tend to prefer the older folkier Neil Young, this album is pretty rad. I love how much room to breathe they give the songs. Very jammy.

Rated 6/10

Totally average latter day Neil Young record. I appreciate the idea of keeping it loose but not sure if I like the results. I'll give it a 3 because it's palatable to me, but I certainly don't think it belongs on this list. He's just taking up room that could have been occupied by a more deserving, younger group from this same time period.

Rated 8/10

Very, very good, a clear influence on loads of bands I love. Full of energy and attitude, and fills the gap between garage rock and grunge perfectly. Some songs are a little bit "older gent trying to sound like his younger self", but that's no bad thing.
Not on Spotify, but that meant I saw the videos for the songs that have them.

Joe Rogan still sucks!!

Finally got round to listening to this on Apple Music. Good album deserves to be on the list, but not sure Neil Youngs voice is well suited on this album. Glad I listened but would rate other NY and CH albums higher.

Rated 6/10

It's okay. Pretty straightforward. I liked it but not sure why it's on this list.

Pensaba que este disco era más antiguo. Leyendo en wikipedia como se grabó, casi como un directo, se entiende mejor su sonido y se puede apreciar su valor. Me han gustado: Fcuking`Up, Over and Over y Mansion on the Hill.
