Sometimes you have to let your inner Bevis take over and just enjoy stuff that is dumb as hell but indisputably rocks hard as hell. These are pretty basic essential thrills: big distorted riffs played at a medium-high tempo with some guitar heroics, a machine of a drummer, and an incredible vocal performance that really pushes into the high end extremely forcefully. The more time passes the more the distinction between metal and classic rock fades away and the idea that this is an especially hard, loud, or aggressive sound or a distinct genre seems kind of absurd.

Disliked very much. Guy's voice is intolerable.

Rated 10/10

This album is full of bangers that I found enjoyable.

Rated 4/10

This didn't do it for me in the same way that, say, Black Sabbath did. I found it a little plodding.

Rated 6/10

This is exactly the type of stuff I like listening to - but for some reason it just wasn't clicking for me

Wasn't bad at all, just couldn't get into it

Favorite album by one of my favorite metal gods. This is a perfect album, not a single bad track. Halford at his pinnacle!

Rated 6/10

Some slappers but some songs that were just corny as hell from a modern perspective. I can definitely see how it was influential. From looking at the Wikipedia page I learned that Red, White, and Blue was not on the original track list and so I will ignore it. Thank god, that song is not good. Favorites were Breaking The Law, Grinder, and Steeler.

Thought it would be worse, lol.

I have established my distaste for the hyper-machismo, play-acted bravado, and contrived darkness of a lot of metal music. This album contains some of that, although tempers itself at times. Where it is most successful is in its more melodic, poppy songs—like “Living After Midnight,” which almost feels out of place among the chug-chug postulations on the rest of the album. I guess I prefer my heavy metal closer to Def Leppard than Black Sabbath, and this fits somewhere in between.

Rob Halford is such a powerful frontman with such an insane voice! Fantastic 80's heavy metal!

Favourite songs: Living After Midnight, Breaking the Law, Grinder, Metal Gods, You Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise

Least favourite songs: United

Some good, solid hard rock. Nothing more, nothing less.

Fed fredag på en onsdag!
Et par bangers og resten ret høj kvalitet!

Rated 6/10

I quite like this, but it's not one I'll revisit. Breaking the Law is a real head-banging tune.

Rated 4/10

Not as bad as I thought, but still quite cringe! Definitely seems to have been a big influence on Iron Maiden and Metallica, but also seems to have been the direct inspiration for Spinal Tap. Wouldn't listen again.

Rated 2/10

Most of it was complete garbage...but the songs had the quality that at times I found myself muttering aloud "breakin the law....breakin the laaawww". 1.5/5

Rated 8/10

If this album kept the quality of the first four songs over the whole album, this might've been one of the best albums in the (early) metal genre ever made.

Rapid Fire is almost speedmetal avant la lettre and feel like where NWOBHM takes off, Metal Gods with its hypnotic rhythm that emanates the relentless march of the robots, Breaking The Law is a Beavis and Butthead classic banger and Grinder with its K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton guitar battle in an almost AC/DC like simplicity is pure rock 'n' roll.

I was blown away by this part and then came United. What in the everloving metal hell was that? And The Rage. And the atrocious bonus track Red, White & Blue.
Maybe broken up by a few decent tracks, but it really drops the average of this album quite a few points. And that's really too bad.

Rated 6/10

Mucho mejor de lo que esperaba. Nunca fui muy heavy en los 80 y lo poco que oía me parecía "muy duro" para mis gustos. Escuchado 40 años después es casi música ligera. Me han gustado "Metal Gods", "Breaking the law" y "United".

Rated 6/10

Honestly more fun than I really give them credit for. Some goofy moments but overall it's very enjoyable metal. Their drummer is basic af though.

Rated 6/10

Influential 80’s metal album, better metal albums would come off the back of this, and does sound a bit dated and cheesy now.

Rated 6/10

Solid album. Nothing amazing, nothing bad. Sounds like the soundtrack to a movie set in the early 80s for a specific type of character.
